Description Taupo Volcanic Zone, New Zealand
Mount Ruapehu is one of the world's most active volcanoes. At 2797m, it is the largest volcano in the North Island, and the only one with glaciers. Situated right next to the iconic 'Mount Doom' (Mount Ngauruhoe), some of the scenes on Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings were filmed on these slopes.
