Description
Josie (an Australian Shepherd) is one of Smokey's agility classmates. This is a continuation in my experiments with colored pencil on colored papers. This paper was a bit too soft and a bit difficult to work with, but I'm rather pleased with the results.

That is really, really good! It looks so realistic. A lot of people can't really capture what the Aussie looks like! I have a red merle, that I show, and a red tri. Great Job!

Thanks! ^^ I think Aussies are terrific dogs. Josie is especially sweet and intelligent. My doggie boy, Smokey (in gallery, too), is a border collie mix with some golden retriever in there somewhere. He's super, too.

My daughter is training our border collie mix (Smokey, in my gallery) for agility, so I've been doing a lot of dog portraits. I recently did an aerdale (sp?) which was really challenging. I love to do a lot of animals, though. Especially wild birds. I'm thinking about doing one of our cat next.

She's so pretty... The red murles have always been my favorite color in an Aussie. You really captured the loving expression of this breed.

Thanx! Hmm... I hadn't thought of making prints, although I did make a hi-res scan for my portfolio. I'm venturing into doing dog portraits on commission. Agility people LOVE their dogs and seem willing to spend a LOT of money on them!

Agility people aren't the only dog people that would. You should meet some confermation handlers (like myself). I've done Charcoals of dogs at dog shows, and I've discovered that many people go nuts with they meet an artist that is willing to do a commission of their champion show dog.

You're right about that... I think all serious dog people (agility, obedience, breeders, confirmation) are willing to spend money on their "babies". These take too long to do in one sitting, but I would be more than happy to take commissions. What kind of dog do you(s) handle?

Gee, sorry it only took me... what?... 7 months to reply. I've been so busy with free-lance work that I haven't given much time or thought to the stuff I REALLY enjoy, like doing pet portraits. I'm making a New Year's resolution to pursue more dog portrait commissions in 2006. Since I need to build up my portfolio, I'd be happy to do one at a discount for you.
