Description The Key of Cthulhu.

Sealed in a sunken crumbling temple in a primordial jungle bordering two warring, desperate lands, the Key of Cthulhu has been discovered and brought to the light of day. It's worn marble skin is slick and weathered by the countless years of futile caressing by blind and feeble-minded worshipers. The dark alien stone of its pedestal bears the wear of millennia of dripping onyxian stalactites and the crawling of obscene, alien insects.

A lone surviving member of Joyner Studio's first expedition was found clutching this very same idol in his pale bloodless hands, blind and gibbering in an exotic dead language, "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn".

A new expedition has been commissioned by Joyner Studio to retrace the old teams fateful route into the primitive jungle and recover the remaining idols.

What a beautiful piece of work, it looks almost alive! This loathsome relic reminds me of Clark Ashton Smith's classic tale "The Dweller in the Gulf."

I think it's beautiful, Lee! The photo of you working on the master sculpture really gives it a sense of scale. I'd love to see the translucency in person, as I bet it's one of those things which photos never capture. Could we see more views?

Hi, and thank you! Yes, I have a ton more views on my website at joynerstudio.com...of both the bronze and the marble.

ahh, thanks, it gives me a better sense of the shapes and design- still quite lovely (in that loathsome hideous Lovecraftian way ).

JoynerStudio In reply to LarsonJamesART [2011-12-06 01:12:42 +0000 UTC]

The bronze one is such a chore to cast and finish, that's why I came out with the marble one, to keep the price down to make it more accessible to the public. I do cast and finish all of these myself, and they're about 20" high, so it is a good amount of work, but at least with the marble I don't have to deal with expensive bronze powder and do all the buffing and finish work that the bronze patina requires.

Great skill and feel for design you have

I'm not familiar with the material to work with, but I love how it looks so smooth, precise and
at the same time finely texturized.

Well done!

Thank you. It's a cold cast rotocastable urethane with a marble powder mix (at least the bust part is). It gives it a nice translucency like marble.
