My pieces are made with a combination of 4 programs, all of which are not too difficult to use. The four programs are: Processing, Audacity, and Photoshop.
Processing a simple script running program that I use to "Pixel Sort" the image. If you're not familiar with pixel sorting, essentially the program drags (or sorts) the pixel to different parts of the screen based on light/dark values assigned to them (that sounds way more complicated than it actually is). The majority of the effects in my images come from this process.
Audacity is traditionally audio editing software, but it can be used to "databend" the image. Databending is when you use software to break or distort the image in some capacity.
And I use photoshop to cut/paste the images as well as color correct and edit them like you would a traditional image. Other than Photoshop, the other two programs are completely free to download. I can link you to the tutorials I used back when I first started to get into glitch art, hopefully they can offer you some more guidance.
