Description
I went round and round with this image, starting out with my Haru Asano character front and center and the rest of the crew hanging as silhouettes in back by the ship's entryway. But after many long renders I was less than pleased each time, and from the artificial lighting it made him look cartoonish. Plus, what made him so special to be in the limelight? So I put his helmet back on and brought them all out for a place in the shot. I hope you will like this version. Haru is actually still there in the center, but who can tell? lolThis is from the same story in the works, dealing with a mission to the ruined planet Demeter to finish a very significant project involving the Corridor. I decided to name it 'Threshold' because that word came to mind as I was creating the scene. The crew will be stepping across a boundary that probably should not be crossed. And here they are prepping for the mission, standing on the first of many dangerous (and deadly!) thresholds.
The ship is the Orbital Nation's Colossus Class "Anura" crafted in Hexagon by my genius friend , as well as the orbital stations (mix of Hex objects and city ecosystems combined in Vue).
The planet and rings were created in Vue.
M4 models using Xurge AIU Viper suits posed in Poser. (Note to Bjorn: yes, one's a woman, so I will fix later - she only had a standard dude suit to jump into at the last minute - lol)
Rendered in Vue. Postwork for color correction and smoke effects were done in Photoshop.

Well done. The posing reminds of a movie poster, as the theme certainly has the potential to be an actual movie. Nice smoke effects, by the way.

OH! This is soooo good! I love these things. Their eyes get me and their outfits are striking too. Sheesh these suits are incredible and how you used them in this composition is just perfect! Way to go!

It was so much fun making this, albeit frustrating at first. Thank you, as always, my friend! Your words are much appreciated!

Thank you so much, Angel! The lighting was hard in this one, and I'm not completely satisfied with how the space stations looked in the end, but I was running the risk of over-testing different light schemes and renders, and lots of time I will grow tired of the image and throw it away with so many tests.
It's like singing the same song over and over and over again.

I understand what you say friend. (I see it perfectly. There is great atmosphere in the background!)
but it is when sometimes twisted ideas.
Surely seeing it a little while, you will notice that oK!

Yay!!! I'm so glad you like it BjΓΆrn! I couldn't shake that name. It does have a "codeword" or mission-sound to it: Operation Threshold. Kind of a Fringe-ish sounding name too.
Fun!!! Happy New Year, Darling!!!

Thanks Kenneth!!! Yeah, I'm glad I went with the group photo instead of the solo focus. Kind of documentation photo before battle.

This is hot! Sorta like an "Omega Force" A kickass group of trained killers that can push buttons like there is no tomorrow (no visible weaponry LMAO) I love the suits, the poses, the lighting, and the background along with the colors in the background that compliment the boys in bio. Awesome render Ryan!

Yay! Thank you so much, Vee! Funny, it didn't even occur to me to give them weapons, but then again, where they're going the only threat is an epic meteor shower from the debris field around the planet. I'm glad I brought everyone forward for the group picture - I didn't want one to be special over the others, even though there will be some "expendable" characters, like those extras in Star Trek that you always tagged from the beginning as the ones who are going to die! lol We'll see...

LOL so true, and yeah, they didn't need weapons. There was an obvious moment of "say cheese" and they all sort of squeezed in and "click" just before the fingers came up to make rabbit ears LOL. It is a great scene though, and I think it is one of your best. I love it!

LOL! That would have been funny with the rabbit ears! lol If it didn't take so long to render, I'd re-pose them in an "out take" scene with rabbit ears, adjusting a crotch, lifting a helmet to pick a nose, etc. LOL! Funny!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it!

One of these days you should do that for fun, it would be hilarious! Especially the rabbit ears, crotch scratch, and now that I know there is a female in there, perhaps one of those fake boobie twists LOL!

Oooohhhh, you are killing me with these story teasers! Okay, well ANYBODY who saw your last pic can attest to what makes Haru Asano so special
but this picture has a strength all it's own! Great poses and deep admiration for the way you still managed to convey expression so well from behind those masks and as far as the set and background scene... well, I can't even remember the last time you didn't blow me away with how well you do those! Outstanding job once again, Ryan!

This is so awesome! I love that they are all in the same suit. hehe They remind me of the crew from Armageddon ready to embark on a dangerous mission and they break out into song and sing Leave'n on a jet plane.... hehe Xurge did great with the viper suit. Love the background with the planet and Bjorn's ship, looks wonderful. Looking forward to reading the story when you guys are ready. Will this be the team that gets spun out of the corridor or are they the team that has to fix it? hehe Just curious. I could use one of those suits right now. Bet you never thought that Hell could freeze over.....well, it was snowing here in the desert today and the temps will be getting down well below freezing tonight so we covered all the plants and wrapped all the pipes and are hoping for the best. Brrrrrr! A wee bit chilly!!

jrmalone In reply to Kachinadoll [2010-12-31 15:33:18 +0000 UTC]
LOL! I can just hear them singing it now!
Thank you so much, Suzi!
We just have a rough "mental story" so far, but yes, they may be going for a little journey through the Corridor.
And, LOL, I heard about your freaky weather there! Definitely need a suit for that! Wow! Stay warm. Figures - one minute you're enjoying mild temps and then WHAMMO! You get hit with a snow storm. We actually had a white Christmas out here, my first EVER! It was beautiful, but not fun driving down the mountain back home. Anyway, I hope your pipes and plants are okay - as long as it's not sustained freezing you should be okay. Stay warm! Hopefully it'll be back to normal soon!

Your most welcome! Looking forward to your cool story. I really want to see someone getting Ziiiinged out of the Corridor. haha
Oh I know! Boo! It's so darn cold and I don't have a coat. haha We survived the first night so far, but it looks like we are in for several nights in a row. These houses were just not built to take this really cold weather. The sun is out but it's still only going to get up to 42 degree's today! Looks like it's time to break out the hot cocoa and build a fire in the living room. haha

Wow! Go figure, it warmed up here! lol I think we traded weather. But I'm not complaining, though I'm sorry you have to endure that chilly weather. I know how that is after living in Florida where we were always ill-prepared for those rare cold snaps. Our house didn't even have heat. Blah! Stay warm! And yes, curl up with a warm blanky and sip some hot cocoa and start burning your furniture for heat! lol
Ahhh, winter!
Happy New Year!

haha, yep, it's been pretty weird. It's so cold outside, it hurts to be out there. hehe We made it through another night and so far everything is OK. There was no cloud cover last night so it was really cold. Brrrrrr. I'm such a puss anymore, can't take that bitter cold weather. la la la Luckily, we didn't have to break up the furniture for firewood. Good thing we like to do wooodworking, have lots of kindling. hehe Weeeee! Happy New Year!

It took about about a day to put the scene together and get the right lighting, and a few days worth of trial-and-error rendering and re-posing of the characters. The final scene took about 10 hours to render.
