Description
Original character... I was challenged to make a female character for a World of Darkness game (I usually play males) and here she is!Hope Lawford, aptly nicknamed "Blue"; lead guitarist of the band Iphigenia, an indie goth/rock band of 6 members that ended rather violently due to the death of all the band members save Blue. While playing a gig one night the band were caught up in some sort of supernatural incident that resulted in a massacre and the burning down of the building.
Blue crawled out of the wreckage one day later, surviving presumably only on the strength of her freakish power to regenerate her body. Blue cannot remember clearly due to nightmares of the incident confusing her perception of imagination and reality so she is conducting her own inquiries into the matter, more often than not encountering a wall of silence.
Consumed by her need to find out what happened that night, not least because the vocalist, Ruben, was the love of her life, Blue has descended into a self-perpetuating cycle of bottling up her emotions. More than anything she hates to be seen as weak and sees perseverance and stubbornness as the way forward.
I COULD invent what actually happened to her but I would rather leave that in the hands of the Storyteller since I want to have the feeling of discovery myself.
As reference I used my own photo of me because I thought the pose was very apt for Blue. In fact, the door frame was completely lifted from the photo because the texture was too awesome to pass up. In short, I only really drew Blue herself:

Thank you. When you look at the line drawing, though, you can see where it came from... I haven't got it up but maybe I will some time soon.

wow this is so awesome, I love the whole look of it, especially her hair, she look's really tough. She looks a little like how I imagine my larp character Melissa would have looked before she got turned into a vampire..

Thanks. Blue is a pretty tough cookie. Very composed. You don't see her freaking out over random stuff and she hides her emotions well. I like this picture of her a lot. I carry character pictures with me when I go to roleplay them because it helps me get into their minds easier.

Thanks. ^_^ Sometimes I can pull off this photographic thing and sometimes I can't... it really suits this picture though so I'm glad it came out ok. It takes a fairly long time to do something like this so I'm glad the effort wasn't wasted. ^_^

Thank you. ^_^ Well, detail is my friend so it's only to be expected that I pay attention this stuff. After all, very often the charm is in the smallest of things.

This is fantastic--much more interesting than the stereotypical portrait-type image, I really love the characters expression and all of the attention to detail in this. Fantastic work!

As beautiful as the girl is I think it is the broken glass of the window that makes this picture special and I love how she is cutting her finger on it.Very well done!!!!

Thank you very much. ^_^ It's true that interesting little elements like that do really make a picture. People are so common in pictures that after a while they become uneventful unless you do something quite special with them. I'll be the first to admit that this is quite hard but every once in a while I manage to pull it off. ^_^

Somber, yet dramatic. Love it!! I'd have to say her facial expression is my favorite part but the color scheme as well as the background / foreground really looks great and ties everything together seamlessly.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the expression - it was something I thought would be quite hard to do as I was going for something simultaneously subtle and intense.

Great illustration ! Pretty design for the character ! I like the way of your drawing turns real even if the character's hair looks fanciful in my opinion ! The mix gives an awesome art !

Thank you very much. ^_^ The character does actually have blue hair, though, so it's not just me thinking it would look cool and doing it randomly... still, I bet in real life her hair wouldn't be that precise shade of blue. There is only so much that hairdye in this world can achieve. Still, in my opinion the best part about her is the face... her expression looks really dreamy and interesting, I think.

Well, this year has been really rubbish for me. My grandma was dying and then she died... I took it rather hard. The whole first half of the year, therefore, I haven't had any inspiration at all. Writers block that lasts that long just... kills. But I'm back on form now. It feels good to finally be able to get something creative out into the world.

Im sorry to hear about your grandmother. Mine isn't doing very well right now either. I know how it feels to have had a block for that long. I've been drawing lately, but I haven't uploaded much at all lately. Maybe if I can find some free time, I will try. It does feel good to see those comments there again, though.

^_^ That's so nice. Actually I was thinking of you the other day randomly. Well... longer ago when I realised that my big computer was completely screwed over and that it would probably be forever before I'd actually be able to play a game with halfway decent graphics again. Ah well, are you still playing Flyff or is there something else taking its place in your life right now?

Hyuga34 In reply to JRock-Prophet [2008-10-26 02:43:39 +0000 UTC]
Hahah
Flyff is on my computer, but I havent played it so long, I bet the patch would take days to finish XD
I don't have any one thing in particular taking a big place in my life, but I know my long term girlfriend has always been a big part of it.
In the way of video games, Oblivion is one of the best games I have played lately.I played it for a long time and finished the main story. My computer is okay, and has a decent graphics processor, and it was a beautiful game. It had many options, and so I turned off detail for far away objects, and it ran great. my friend has it for xbox 360, and its even better looking on there, because it was made for games, and has a better graphics card, but I prefer the computer version, because I got a bunch of mods for it. I would highly recommend it, and the character creation is so incredibly in depth if you have the patience.
ha, it sounds like I am obsessing, but I havent played it in a while :/ There are so many side quests after the main one, but school caught up to me, you know?
I guess I have been getting out more, and working on more art. I still have a million things to clean up, finish, and upload.
It's so weird to think that we first started talking on FlyFF. haha

Hehe, you don't need to recommend Oblivion to me. I finished it probably before you even picked it up. I actually did everything in the game that there is to do apart from retarded perfectionist things like finding every single nirnroot in the game. But my big computer is dead now so I can't play anything with nice graphics... or just anything at all because my laptop is not made for games. I do recall that I had a few good patches for it, mainly in terms of giving more choice in hair styles and colours and eye types and colours too. It looked really pretty when I'd finished modding it.
I made a custom class "ninja" and ended up being head of every organisation in the land. I was arch mage, grey fox, guildmaster for fighter's guild, arena champion, head of the black brotherhood and also some kind of knight of something. I stopped playing Oblivion only because I'd done everything that had even a small bit of plot involved. All that was left for me was to raid random caves - and I couldn't be bothered because there are SO MANY caves on the map! I always meant to get the expansion packs but now it really isn't possible with my computer dead. If I got a game-playing computer or laptop I guess my first priority would be to find something different to play rather than trying to carry on with Oblivion since I'd have to do it all again and that would take forever. I have no idea how many hours of my life that game owns... but it's a hell of a lot.
