This is a new version of an old painting I did in 2002 called "Adrift". I liked the idea of the early painting but over the years I didn't like the way it was done.

was this a lot of layering for you? seems after a while when im using oils, im just removing paint, and it drives me nuts.

Yes, some layering. I'm not sure why you'd be removing paint unless the layer you're working on isn't completely dry. But I can see how it would be frustrating.

yeah, like when you just have too much wet paint, and going over it just wipes it, and no paint is really applied. or just use a lot of paint?

Letting your progress dry before going any further really helps avoid that. It has to dry for two or three days, longer for thicker layers.

I really like your dark paintings which still have rich color in certain areas.
At first, I thought this painting was a depiction of Gollum, Tolkien's character.
It also reminds me of the lyrics and song, "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Cream.

This is a beautifully dark piece! I love the blues and greens in the wave; I think they bring out the lighter tones in the clouds very nicely!
