Just saw Shin Godzilla last night, and man was the new Godzilla's intro a big shock!He's a giant freaking derpy mess and I loved it!

Why did they feel the need to re-invent Godzilla? The original version was timeless, and definitely didn't have any forms that looked like a Sesame Street muppet got run over by a truck.

Except, ya know, he only ever vaguely resembled a muppet in those awkward close up shots where an actual hand puppet was used. Plus I never recall Showa Godzilla spewing blood from his mouth and gills. Nor did his tail ever give birth to Jack Skellington clones.

Shin godzilla doesn't have any less dignity than the original godzilla. He is a respectable godzilla in his own right. And I care since I am a loyal fan of the franchise.

No. I respect that you prefer the Showa Goji, but saying that Shin Goji has no dignity is a bit of a stretch. At least he isn't like Roland Emmerich's "godzilla".

And that's fine. I endorse taking risks and expanding on things. But when you throw stuff against the wall, not all of it will stick and will just fall to the floor. In my personal opinion, what Anno has done does not stick. It's way to Ridley Scott-ish and pretentious, and I hope the next movie Toho makes will dial it back a bit. You have no hope of changing my feeling on this with your neurotic pleadings of "No! Say it isn't true! Take back those mean words, you bad man! Waaaaah haa haa haa!!!"

I know. I'm sorry I flew off the handle. I'm just used to dealing with people who try to convert me to their way of thinking. I'm really not mad that the film is doing well. It thrills me to no end that the Japanese public still loves Godzilla and want more of him. But I will never, for the life of me, understand what is so great about Hydeaki Anno. To me he comes off as very pretentious and nihilistic. I'm surprised he didn't end Shin Gojira by having Godzilla stick his penis inside the Earth's crust and turn everyone into orange juice.

I hate nihilists in general, but I don't really think that Anno's nihilistic. He's just a guy who has some issues with depression.
While that last comment is pretty funny, I know that Anno wouldn't go THAT far with Goji. If Godzilla were to do that, he would end up being a GINO. XD
