I'm always amazed at the obstacles that people put on themselves, the fear that emanates from the disbelief that they could never do something (such as painting and/or drawing). Looking back over the years, I too am guilty of this or at least have been. I'd suggest looking into a book called "learning to draw from the right side of your brain." Look into the chapter that offers the studies of drawing and where to begin.
It is suggested to take a simple line drawing, flip it upside down and draw what you see. Allowing your pencil/pen or other tool to flow without trying the connect each body part to the adjacent component. Once completed, flip it over so you don't see it, repeat the exercise but this time draw it right side up then compare the 2 together. The image that was drawn upside will appear more accurate to what was copied from.
Reason? Simple. On average we tend to use the left hemisphere or logic side of our brains the majority of the time. The exercise forces one to use the right hemisphere which is your creative side.
Having said that, we ALL can draw, paint, play music, etc.
