Because Tumblr is dumb and makes it too small to see worth a damn >.>Despite my attempts to get away from the idea that Church has glasses, I keep drawing it. This time, it's Wash's turn. Can't say he likes them very much.
I don't think Wash would be very down with the idea of Church looking/acting/becoming more like the Director....and those glasses seem like kindof a big first step in that direction. Can you imagine? The closest thing you've had to a friend -I use the term loosely- is slowing transforming into the man that ruined your life. As if Wash had enough problems...

I can imagine Church trying to get on Wash's nerves because as you said, they are awful to each other, but frankly, they shouldn't be. They're the two people who have the most in common. Having to meet impossible demands while surrounded by treachery and a bunch of hopeless morons, greeting these situations with a more or less level head, but with bitter sarcasm and pessimism as well. Odd, huh?

I think they're more mean to each other in a bromantic sort of way, a la Grif and Simmons: they don't get along but that's just how they express their friendship*. Because you're right, they are actually very similar characters (waaaay back when I first began watching rvb I couldn't tell them apart ^^') and you think that they'd rely on each other as the only two characters that really understand what is going on around them with Freelancer, the Director, and all the rest of it.
*Granted, Wash and EpsiChurch from seasons 7-9 probably aren't gonna be friends anytime soon, but I think after a while they might be able to put the past behind them and get along. I mean, Wash went through all that trouble to save EpsiChurch at the end, and EpsiChurch has to have some memories of way back when Wash wasn't a complete asshole, right? Right?! /excuses.
