Okay? I don't really see what that has to do with anything, but alright...

It's basically getting the un-known artist more fans or at least viewers of their work, and it's on front-page so anybody who sees it and clicks here will know who made the sculpture because of the description and hopefully think "That's awesome, I'll search the name and see what else he's made"

FallingWithoutStyle In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-09 21:50:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but from a good number of the comments, many didn't read the description and think that the poster is the artist. Furthermore, it's misleading. When you post something on a website for original art, it tends to lead people to believe that what you posted is original art.

Skelly-Bone In reply to FallingWithoutStyle [2013-01-09 21:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Then you get a comment saying "Read the description" and you're like "Oh, I didn't read the description" then you read the description.

I think you're missing the entire point here.
The point everyone is trying to make is, yes, it's fine to promote the art of others. But posting it on an ORIGINAL ART site is misleading and, as much as it promotes the artist, posting their work on a site for original art with a minimal amount of credits and giving it your own title instead of giving the artist's title for their work is enough to outrage any artist.

Skelly-Bone In reply to FallingWithoutStyle [2013-01-09 23:17:36 +0000 UTC]

They are saying they took the photo but someone else made the work, if someone is mislead by it then it's their fault for not looking at the category and description.

FallingWithoutStyle In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-09 23:31:40 +0000 UTC]

So you're saying that, if someone took a picture of YOUR art and posted on a website for original artworks, you wouldn't be the tiniest bit upset that they're being praised for a photo, even though it is a photo of YOUR work?
And to be honest, the picture isn't even that original. Yes, he took it. So have many other people. [link]
And, to revisit the subject that he gave, not his own, but someone else's artwork a new title instead of giving it its original title.
Not only that, but if he was truly trying to promote the artist he would have given not only the artist's full name, but also provided the title of the work, a link to more of the artist's work, credit in the title, and a credit in the picture. That is how you promote. No, this is someone who wants credit of the photo, and leaves just enough credit for the art so he can't get in trouble for it.

In all honesty I wouldn't mind, I draw for fun and I enjoy it, If someone else wanted to use it to get a bit of recognition I wouldn't mind, they wouldn't be able to copy every single thing because my art has a personal-story to it that wouldn't really make sense to anybody else but I wouldn't mind, I don't profit/want to profit from anything.

FallingWithoutStyle In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-09 23:48:04 +0000 UTC]

It's not about profit, it's about the work. The satisfaction of "I did this, this is mine.", something to be proud of. Something you put your heart and soul into, worked hard on and can be proud of. And then someone decides that they can use it whenever they want because they want recognition? The whole point of being recognized as an artist or writer is because you did something worth recognizing. Anyone can walk into an exhibit and take a picture of someone else's art. It's not impressive, and it certainly isn't worth recognizing. So using it to gain fans is just wrong.

If I ever upload anything to this account it'll just be a sketch or rough idea I won't use in my full-time account, if someone wants to use a little sketch from this account in their work then it's fine by me.

My proper account is mainly either venting or a small random comic I thought of, again I'm not really proud of any of it and the reason why they are plain and simple is because I don't care if people use it in their art/"steal it". if they want to break the rules it's fine by me, I mainly upload it to DA because all the paper is fulling up my house and my laptop has a bad habit of deleting things on its own, like I said before I don't get anything out of it and I just leave what I draw up here on DA so I don't loose it for good.

FallingWithoutStyle In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-10 00:41:40 +0000 UTC]

Well there are others, such as myself, who are proud of the work they do and would prefer it not be used by someone else without our permission. If someone uploaded one of my stories, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I would be really upset because I put all of my effort into my work

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skelly-Bone In reply to FallingWithoutStyle [2013-01-10 00:45:07 +0000 UTC]

Then that's your opinion and since you're work is unique it obviously matters, but mine is more of the sort of thing everybody draws or doodles if they're into manga/kawaii things so it can easily be re-created.

FallingWithoutStyle In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-10 00:52:55 +0000 UTC]

That's my point though, right there.
The guy who did the original work is an accomplished artist who does original work. Not many people make people holding their chests open out of yellow legos. And this guy simply took a picture in an attempt for recognition in his photography, even though the work in the picture is much more impressive then simply taking a picture of it. It's cheating in a way.

Bentheechidna In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-10 01:52:33 +0000 UTC]

By putting in the camera information on the right and putting a date for when he supposedly took the picture, he claims to have taken the picture on December 29th, 2012, and therefore takes credit for taking the picture.

JynxedDraca In reply to Skelly-Bone [2013-01-09 23:56:24 +0000 UTC]

He is posting something that he did not make, it actually is against the TOS to post this even if he did credit. FAQ #157: Can I use things created by other people in my submissions? FAQ #306: Does "Crediting" let me use whatever I want? So yes, it counts as stealing.

well he took a picture of it... look at the camera details on the right side.... so he has credit on the picture but not on the artwork... when I took a picture of a scenery with a chair..uhm well..... I have no credits of the picture because I didn't make the chair xD c'mon... funny

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JynxedDraca In reply to Dyaniart [2013-01-10 15:52:16 +0000 UTC]

I think there's a definite difference between posting a picture of scenery with a chair and posting a picture of someone else's art.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dyaniart In reply to JynxedDraca [2013-01-10 16:20:53 +0000 UTC]

uhm.. no ^^ when someone build a chair maybe out of wood with nice textures and I believe that when someone build something with lego bricks does not make it to something more special whats the differnce when you shoot a picture of a scenery with a chair or maybe the mona lisa xD It's nothing! The photographer was on a lego brick exhibition and shoot a picture of it so when I'm in madame tussauds wax museum and shoot a picture of a person... I'm currently the owner of the picture and did not steal any art out of the museum...

I never accused of stealing. Merely pointing out the fact that this is obviously not your work, credit given or not. I am also commenting on my opinion that it is annoying that Deciantart has become DeviantReddit, or DeviantPhotobucket.
However if you are thinking that I was saying that you were stealing then maybe it's your guilty conscience.

Also I might add that whether or not it is stealing it is still a problem with permission issues. Because I highly doubt that you have contacted the original artist asking permission to display this under your name just to get some people to come look at your gallery.

TL;DR = *Facepalm*

On mentioning the Creator of this, I'd also like to point out that you haven't even given him the courtesy of keeping the title of the piece the same. You merely slandered it with your own words which has the effect of defacing his artwork.

Please reply to this if I should continue.

Because I think that you are a failure to society as your replies suggest that you don't even take the time to fully read through a comment/reply in order to think of a valid response. Which then leads me to believe that you are a troll and/or a self loathing little prick who seeks any sort of attention be it positive or negative. And it's because of people like you who seek for praise without effort that this world is doing the same thing that my poop does in the mornings.... gets flushed down the toilet.

Then do yourself a favor and remove this deviation and save the DeviantArt crew some time so that they don't have to. This picture has been uploaded many times to this site and has been inevitably removed each and every time. And then do yourself another favor and stop posting stuff unless you actually are the creator.

I'm bored of you now, so you will receive no more replies from me. Please do feel satisfied in your stupidity.
