Description
Here is the tutorial for faces as thought up by myself and fulfilled by . I will be posting more tutorials for other parts of the body as well.Remember that my way may not be the best way for you. This is just how I draw most of the time and found it easier to do. I will show in steps.
Step1 Circle) Begin each by making a circle, this is the center piece to make the face.
Step2 Cross) The cross creates the holding points of the face. The center line must always run across the center as it creates many points of the face. The small bottom circle holds the size and position of the chin. The larger that circle the larger the chin. It may also just be used to reference the length of the face.
Step3 Jaw) The jaw holds the face together. Make a curve from the small circle to the large one, it's depth and shape create the cheek. Once you reach the circle create another curve that reaches the center horizontal line of the cross, that makes the ear. Then from the center line curve off the face then back down to the small circle; that's the nose and mouth area. Make a line somewhere beneath the cheek curve and another behind the curve of the ear. That makes the outline of the neck.
For the front view you'll have to make four lines to create a face. Two running from the horizontal cross down to the bottom of the circle then connecting to the small circle with two more lines.
Step4 Outline) This is where you start creating what you want. Starting with making a line below the center horizontal line this will give you an area for the eyes. One part in particular that may not change unless the characters nose is a different size; the nose usually starts right at the bottom of the big circle.
Step5 Detail) This part is entirely up to you and hopefully my tutorial has helped you get to this point. Once you have the outline finished add all your characters parts to make them as you want.
I really hope this helped people. As I've said before this is not for everyone, this is one of the easiest ways I've come up with to draw faces. More to come if people like this.

you know how a lot of people seem to have the most trouble with the 3/4 (portial) direction? Well I don't really have an issue with that. My biggest problem is the side view! I just can't do their lips, and their noses look like rockets!
this helps a lot though I can see the mistakes I was making on the faces. Thanks!

I'm glad it helps. I had trouble on 3/4s more then the side when I was first starting though.

I think that since you were used to front, and 3/4 is just front turned, that you were able to work it right.

Hah, you don't need to be a pro to give me help! Something simple like this is actually really useful. I'm still an amateur, so I'll take all the advice I can get!

the center guide lines are actually the only step i bother with myself normally. lol at this point in my art work, i have actually been doing most of my work without even sketching a frame. ^///////////^
would that make me a better or worse artist do you think?

Neither, it's all up to you. As I said this is just the way I've been doing it. In fact some of my best work I don't used guidelines like my Day of The Dead picture with the two salsa dancing skeletons, I never used a frame. It just helps sometimes.

It may help you to improve or it may not. There's no harm in trying but you don't have to...kind of circular reasoning haha!

hehe, got ya. ^^ the principles in themselves should help a lot. at least knowing what your arc points are should definitely give some insight and improvement as long as i can get myself to apply them.

Wow, that's very much like the way I draw faces and heads, too.

Haha, I'm glad I could hit home with someone for once when it comes to the way I sketch.

I learned that method from a book a long time ago. Drawing books have lots of tips, but they can only get you so far. In the end, art comes from the artist.

Yep. Unless you're one of those weird type-writer artists who can only draw like others and have no style of their own...I met one before...he was a ver empty person.

One of my ways yes. My most used way in fact, but when I do extreme detail or little detail I don't use it.
