Description
I did it. I watched Lion King in 3D. I am speechless. Need some time to process it. Let's just say the movie went by rather very quickly. And that I had a : O expression throughout the whole Circle of Life song. Plus disbelief throughout most of the movie.It. Was. Epic.
So I came home, and wanted to draw. I noticed so much more detail on the big screen than I had ever seen through my 50th million run of the film.
One thing that jumped out quite alarmingly for me was the scene where Rafiki tells Simba he was wrong about Mufasa being dead and proceeds to lead him through the tunnel of trees. Only moments before, Simba was still blaming himself for his father's death. Rafiki appears and suddenly makes Simba doubt it all. Simba was given hope, however far fetched it was. The big screen and 3Dness just brought out all of Simba's emotions in that scene. He desperately needed Rafiki to show him that Mufasa was still alive to rid of the horrible guilt that plagued him to that day. So I thought the tunnel was rather metaphorical in that sense.

(ps. please ignore the trees)

About the tunnel, in the commentary of the film on the dvd, the filmmakers actually described it as Simba going back through all the knarled twisty problem inside him, going back through the layers, and also how he escaped to the jungle to the right on screen, in comparison he is going back that other way when he goes though the tunnel, so when hes going through the undergrowth and snapping the vines, he is in a sense going through therapy to the heart of his problem XD
Watching it in 3D this year though, was that your first time seeing The Lion King? o.0

Ohhh! That's insightful. I love the hidden meanings behind scenes. They're always philosophical. And no, the 3D is definitely not my first time watching The Lion King.

This looks so cool You've got his expression down perfectly!
I went to see TLK 3D twice (missed out on the 2D version, unfortunately...) and I agree that seeing it on the big screen just is something very special. Or quite simply, amazing.

Great picture, kiddo. Also, I'm glad that your metaphorical tunnel has to do with wisdom and not that love scene.

Did they go through a tunnel in that song?

catgutzy In reply to Juffs [2011-09-24 15:56:19 +0000 UTC]
No, it's just that a lot of Lion King fans are saying that Kiara was conceived during that song because of the "come hither" look that Nala gave Simba after they rolled down the hill. Tunnels are often interpreted as a Freudian sex fantasy. Don't take that too much to heart. Even Freud said "Sometimes a tunnle, is just a tunnel."
