Well, if you know me, then you know I don't really like painting backgrounds. But I decided that I should try some scenic pieces. It obviously has heavy influence from traditional japanese artists, only rendered Juji style.
This was the first of two scenic pics. A little different, but maybe I can go somewhere with this. I used Photoshop cs and Painter 8.

I love this one, it has a great atmosphere and the japanese inspiration fits well.
But I find the girl useless. She doesn't give nothing to this great background in my point of vie.

Those white waterfall-clouds in the bottom seem rushed, but otherwise, it's a lovely combination of styles.

Awesome job! this is a very origional peice. The compostion is good and the landscape is absolutely amazing. The water looks a little more cartoonish than the rest but it adds to the peice and really looks like it's moving. You even added rapids! And I think there are fishes in the pond. Are there fishes? looks like there are. I believe this peice is very well done. I applaud your work!

I think this is absolutely wonderull! So is your other scenery pecie, Cold Night. Im ,y opionion they are by far the two best peices in your gallery. I find myself wishing you would work like this more often. And I'm not sayin gI dislike your other paintings, but these are diffrent somehow. There is a loose, stylised mood brought to the whole thing that just wants me to look it them more and more. I think it goes far beyond just looking like a Japanese inspired landscape.
The only thing that bothers me in the tree and cliff in the upper left. The colours areso bringt, and contrast so pronounced that it looks as though they should be in front of everything else, and yet they are not.

This is nice. I always wanted to do something like old chinese/japanese where there's big mountains and sky.. and little people and house scatter around.. .
but i never thought of it like this..

Beautiful piece. I think, though, it could use more oranges in the bottom. On such an interesting piece it looks like you have kind of abandoned it without finishing. It really is nice though.

Yeah I was gonna say that it's reminiscent of traditional asian arts and stuff. Only thing that feels out of balance is the water. I wish I could give you advice but I too have problems with water.

Very cool. I like how the clouds feel stylized, maybe ephemeral, and the ground the girl walks on looks so solid.

This looks so nice. Those gradients work very well for you with your stylization of the landscape. The lovely feeling of depth you developed, though, comes to a slamming stop at the orange cliff; which is probably why you got the comment about the top and bottom seeming to be two separate images. If the brightest bit of the cliff were only a teeny bit brighter than the tree, the colors would still glow, and the image would snap together.
