Description
Drawn for Spinner's End 10th challenge: [link]McKay and Arionrhod are two popular writers whose fanfiction I've been enjoying for years. Their Snupin AUs and ARs are probably some of the best stories I've ever found in fandoms - their characterizations are stunning and, most of all, different from fiction to fiction. They've explored every aspect of Snape and Lupin personalities and combined them to create infinite scenarios, always varied but at the same time always amenable to Severus and Remus as we have known them.
Choosing one single story has not been easy, but since the subject of the challenge is Snape, I sorted out "A Chaos of deep Passion" ([link] ), which I deeply enjoyed at the time exactly because of Severus: after the war, we (and Lupin) find him a broken man, fallen into a dark depression because of Dumbledore's murder, mostly.
I liked their exhausted, worn-out Severus a lot, because it was credible and actually in character.
The scene I pictured refers to chapter 4, where Snape has *the* outburst and Fawkes comes to him, warm and singing and *there*, a solid presence, actually saving his life.
The bird's appereance and attitude seems to Severus a pure act of absolution and that's when the ice melts and darkness starts to fade away.
I know Severus' hair looks weird: it's supposed to, because of what's written in the story.

This is a very expressive and touching drawing. Severus' desperation is clearly visible and the awaiting redemption in the form of Fawkes is perfectly displayed. Also, I your style!!
I haven't read the fanfiction, but it has to be a great one if it inspired this wonderful piece!

or "HowToMakeJules'Morning"!
Thank you, I'm happy to hear you like it, style and all!
McKay and Arionrhod's fanfictions are some of the very best I've ever read: they're two of those authors that are able to make you believe (and enjoy) almost everything. They wrote Snupins, most of all, for which I have a soft spot, but even then their works really stand up among the others. I tend to prefer their AUs (in which Severus and Remus are doctors, chefs, bakers, cops, dancers, ice-skaters etc) but this one showed me a side of post-war!Snape I thought possible and intriguing - and, my! those women CAN write. I think I already said it all answering to *Vizen 's comment...

Of course I read some good Snupins by McKay and I'm not sure I read this story. I'll read it. It's another example of things I would not find believable initially - Snupin is not my cup of tea - but then an author makes it good and I enjoy the reading. McKay did it to me. This is notably why I love the fandom and fanon developments.
So to speak, you perfectly met the challenge! Great entry again !

McKay (and Arionrhod, with whom she wrote her best fics, in my opinion) can write. That's a fact. She is one of those terrific authors that is able to pull you through a story you would never have picked, if able to choose. I noticed this, about her/their style: in every fanfiction, they focus the characterization on one particular aspect of Snape's or Lupin's personality - and it's a great choice for a passionate fan, because every time they can explore, with their writing, new depths, while the readers can enjoy new takes on their favourite couple. Sometimes they'll be disappointed, because the dynamic-of-the-day is not that believable, or maybe the kink is not their cup of tea, but the fact is that you can always recognize bits of the original, canon characters there, and understand what liberties the writer took, why, and enjoy them nevertheless, because the narration is fluid and the style good and entertaining. That's something that very few authors can do (and I found several of them in the Snupin ranks: maybe it depends on the fact that they're, most of the time, older than -just to say- Drarry shippers, and have matured some experience both in life, in writing and in fandom as well).
"A Chaod of deep Passion" can turn a bit too sugar-ish sometimes, but it has some really interesting takes - and some bits are simply hilarious, as well. A nice example of Hurt/Comfort with the usual happy ending.
Btw, McKay also wrote a nice Sirius/Remus/Severus ficlet that perhaps you could like. It's marked as a threesome, but it focuses on Sirius and Severus' side and relationship: [link]
As always, glad you liked the piece^^

I've had a better look and restarting reading them, I recognized the fics - I read them but some long time ago. Sirius/Remus/Severus is typically the kind of nonsense I would enjoy reading because these authors, fans of the Marauders/Snape relationship, have often a sense of each character and a sense of humour I look for myself. And "A chaos of deep passion" is what I would call " classic". It's so interesting that in the fandom some fics and fanarts stand out, when the Internet is so big and chaotic. Some fics are really striking and I read some of them twice or thrice - they are worth it. Indeed, I agree, it's more about the quality of the author than about the pairing or canon-ity of the story. And even, I insist on the fact that the fan writers made me love and understand some characters more than the books because they developed their characters in very good ways.

Very compelling illustration, Jules - I'm not sure I could read the fic without my heart being , judging by this. So expressive and heartfelt . . . Awesome entry for the challenge.

It's quite the painful journey, but I left Lupin out in this piece, while he has the important role of the 'saviour'. Angst a go-go, but romance as well, and a little bit of humor here and there. I'll always recommend McKay&Arionrhod's fanfictions, if not this one, than another of their tens of works...
Glad you like it, though: it could have come out better, but it was not an easy scene to me, not at the moment. Well, I had composition and colours very clear and set in my mind, but the brush seemed unwiling t cooperate. Good to hear it was acceptable, in the end.

I think you did a great job. I may check out their fics . . . kinda drawing a blank on this challenge what with the comic, etc. going on.

Poor Severus! You've really captured his pain here! I love your Fawkes! I did not know that a bird could look so sympathetic! Then again, he is a phoenix!

The written passage is quite touching - I liked that it was Fawkes of all the war survivors to give him that pull towards life. Animals ARE sympathetic, and he's Dumbledore's phoenix! A beautiful choice from the authors.
Glad you like it^^
