First of all thank you!!
Secondly, no need to apologize, I LOVE to ramble about animation and programs haha
I use TVPaint because I got used to it when I was making animations for school, it's not ideal and I had to customize it a lot to be able to make pixels.
Ideally you should use Aseprite (it's pretty cheap!! and it has a free trial version) Though If you just wanna try something for free you can use www.piskelapp.com/ you can pixel stuff directly on the internet (and you can download the finished gif to your computer)
