I was sort of thinking of this idea during the day and then came home and drew it.
Octoturtle is a species of tortoise that will walk the vast African rockscapes hundreds of millions of years from now. It gets its name from how it looks when grazing; 6 legs spread out, tail down for balance and head munching on sparse tree tops. From a distance, it almost looks like an eight legged animal.
Because it is so large, having a shell for protection is pretty much useless. However it does serve another function...The shell has become porous and hard, almost resembling sea coral. The Octoturtle spends most of it's time chasing clouds. As it walks through them, the carapace soaks up the water and stores it. Runoff water drips down to the lower shell and the Octoturtle can drink it up. The left over cloud moisture on the shell begins to thrive with life, inviting insects and birds. The shell has essentially become a permanent food platter for the Octoturtle and it's offspring (which climb up the tail and play in all the back-puddles ^-^ )
