Description *Sorry for bad english*

Rignif is the result of my final course work entitled VILUMICE [Conceptual Videographic Experiment Inspired in Silent Films and the Contributions of the Visual Language]. This is for academic intent and doesn't have any commercial profit.

The aim of the work is to change spoken texts on pictograms, making story understandable only through the image composition. This is just the first step in a long way research.

Still has a lot of work to do to make it finished. I do plan to spend my time hereafter improving this method.

1 month of preparation
2 days of shooting
R$ 120 of total costs
67 minutes of video rushes
15gb files on computer
6 weeks of editing

So few comments on such an awesome film. I love the black and white, gritty like comic books, and the way the 'dialogue' was done only enhanced that. I loved how it was free of words and yet conveyed a story and the music was just awesome.

Great film. Congrats on the DD!

Umm, I could say that some of the pictogram is rather hard to understand, especially in these parts. But for the full piece, I enjoyed it, bravo!

Yeah, I understand. During my research I did show this video to some students and applied a questionary. The answers shown that some people had difficulty to understand some pictograms. I hope I can improve this experiment with more research in near future and I hope one day make it understandable for more people, almost everyone! Thank you very much for your support!

Good job on getting the feel of the original silent films! Because like the originals this could also use a bit more faster rhythm

One thing irritated me a bit though and that was the in take cuts after we discover that the girl was taking picture of the crime. I felt that there was no good reason to do them anymore.

Good black and white filming and clean narrative trough out the film. Good experiment!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

julium In reply to jampura [2009-01-02 22:28:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much for your comment!
The intent of the experiment was not to reprise the 'silent films formula' but make it more contemporary. This is the reason for not to make it with faster rhythm, and this resource don't seems to fit with that story. But in the future, with the improvement of the experiment, I can get the resource.

The reason for the cuts on the 'taking pictures scene' is the effect of photography taking and all the teachers and videomakers that saw the experiment liked this effect. I can't please everyone, sorry... but I need to now when someone don't like something, and I'm really happy for your comment showing this point.

Once more I thank you!
