Description
Template out of date!New Version: hototos.deviantart.com/journal…
Rare colors are no longer open
Here we have 28 approved colors for purebred Hototo’s. No other colors are allowed! The Silver gene are very common in the breed and is often seen.
There may only be other colors when a Hototo is crossed with a natural horse and there will be a crossbred, but other than that, no other colors.
Breeding
To breed Hototo’s to get a certain color works just as if it would have been a natural horse. Their base color has the same genetics as a normal horse and that way you can get a offspring which shares the sire and dams heritage and genes.
For example
Blue Roan Hototo X a Cremello Hototo will result in either a Silver Smokey Blue Roan or a Silver Buckskin Roan. Another example.
A Dominant white X a Steel grey will probably result in either a Light Grey or dapple grey offspring.
Next we shall learn about the markings that are allowed on a Hototo.

Are Hototo's still open? I am really thinking about making a grullo dun. Did I hear right that you can now make 2 starters instead of 1? Also, what would you call a white Hototo with a black (really dark grey?) face and black (dark grey?) legs? Can't wait to have one!

How does the Dominant white work in Hototos?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Jullelin In reply to DarKestcreagirl [2013-04-14 12:14:57 +0000 UTC]
really, it is just white. dominant white means that if it is bred to a chestnut for exambple, the cance of getting a grey or white is even bigger than getting a chestnut.

I'm looking to breed my Frost Charger/dark unicorn mare Nordlys with a Hototo, so I'll be collecting the various breed sheets and making sure I do things right.

Just asking, as I'd like to design a hototo soon.. have had it on my to do list for ages.
You have some colors marked common, some rare, and some not marked at all..
Just want to know if it would be ok for a steel grey hototo?

Jullelin In reply to DemiWolfe [2012-03-05 16:42:36 +0000 UTC]
Steel grey are open, since this is no rare color for a Hototo.
All white based colors are common for Hototo's, since it is very important to blend in to the nature, when it is snow outside. So, steel grey, are much approveble ^^

Go and look in in the fav folders, there you can see how many registrated mares vs stallions there are ^^

I thought taffy and silver dapple were the same thing genetically but they were called different things in different places could you clear that up for me? And this breed sounds pretty epic by the way.

they are the same but I think she just split it up to make it clear, no matter the name , that it is rare

So I'm assuming that I can't make a dappled palomino or flaxen chestnut??? (I have taken a great liking to dapples lately, but I'm not a big fan of grays!) Just thought that it's make sure :/

I think Black Silver dapple is the same as 'Taffy' Taffy is just a different name for it mostly used in the rocky mountain horse breeders (i think)

I just bred a perlino and a Bay Roan and the generator said that the foal would mostlikely be buckskin roan. Both were pure hototos, so can I make it that? or should I just make it buckskin(same probability)?

Can you have a pale almost mouse colored grullo in Hototos?

I'm confused about the "May have white to cream mane and tail" part. So if I created a blue roan Hototo and gave it a white mane and tail, it would be ok just not considered silver?

Jullelin In reply to sVa-BinaryStar [2011-05-24 06:34:24 +0000 UTC]
If the horse has a white mane, it is counted as Silver
