Description
Template out of date!New Version: hototos.deviantart.com/journal…
Rare colors are no longer open
Here we have 28 approved colors for purebred Hototo’s. No other colors are allowed! The Silver gene are very common in the breed and is often seen.
There may only be other colors when a Hototo is crossed with a natural horse and there will be a crossbred, but other than that, no other colors.
Breeding
To breed Hototo’s to get a certain color works just as if it would have been a natural horse. Their base color has the same genetics as a normal horse and that way you can get a offspring which shares the sire and dams heritage and genes.
For example
Blue Roan Hototo X a Cremello Hototo will result in either a Silver Smokey Blue Roan or a Silver Buckskin Roan. Another example.
A Dominant white X a Steel grey will probably result in either a Light Grey or dapple grey offspring.
Next we shall learn about the markings that are allowed on a Hototo.

I do have a question about how they inherit the stripe colors. Is that just based on the parents? Like they get one or the others parents color? Or can they chance get a different color? Like a blue diamond can't or can have a yellow diamond foal?

A silver dapple bay with minimal stripes would be gorgeous <3 Maybe purple, pink, or green stripes. Or red stripes, ahhh red stripes with that base would be gorgeous! If only both of those weren't rare and the breed was open. If it's ever open in the future I do hope to create my own, Hototos are an obsession of mine <3

Sounds like a gorgeous Hototo. Although the red is not possible
Yeah, the breed grows in popularity and almost everyone seems to want one these days

Hahah I remembered that as I sent it, it's a shame, although I think maybe a nice, bright lime green would do just as well ^^
Haha, I've been saving up points so I can get some for my stable, they're my favorite breed on dA! And I've got two friends who both have one and the foal would have purple [my favorite color] stripes. You can bet I'm bribing them to breed them for me

SilmesDragonStable In reply to FriesianCollection [2011-05-03 12:29:49 +0000 UTC]
black is not allowed, just as dark bay/seal bay.
the steel grey will grey out more to white
just like all other greys.

There can be many nice hototos out of these.
I such at knowing what color the foal get when I cross different colors though... Example: grullo dun X amber champagne = ???
Anyone who knows a good place where I can get educated on this subject?

A Grullo dun X a Amber champagne would produce a Amber Champagne Dun

That calculator thingy was genious! Thanks a lot!
Though I don't know what that second step means (agouti and hjkhwhateverguhgynous)... I'm such a newbie to this.

Definitely! I also have no idea if my Hototo's are silver carriers, or red gene carriers and such...

SilmesDragonStable In reply to LittleRedToyota [2011-05-03 12:30:58 +0000 UTC]
it's pretty easy when you now it
but I can understand that it look like the hell when you first see it
if you have trouble with genetics, feel free to ask ^^ I am pretty good at it
as for the agouti that makes that your black horse turns into a bay

LittleRedToyota In reply to SilmesDragonStable [2011-05-03 19:52:28 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot!
I need to ask a lot though....
I also wonder what frame, sabino, tobiano, splash and frame overo means... It has something to do with painthorses, but what is the difference between them?
These are the most confusing things:
Non-Agouti (aa)
Heterozygous (Aa)
Homozygous Agouti (AA)
Silver Dilution
Heterozygous (nZ)
Homozygous Silver (ZZ)
