Another sigh came out of her mouth as she let High Phase stretch his neck, it was only a matter of minutes until it was their time to get into the show arena.
Nora was feeling awfully tired, the jet lag and the past events since the start of this year had clearly something to do with it. The Canadian pinched the bridge of her nose in an attempt to clear up her tired mind without touching her makeup, one of the only things that she still could properly do.
“I’ll have to trust you wholly on this one buddy…” She patted the bay stallion’s muscled neck. In the past shows she had to rely wholly on her mounts as her head hadn’t been the clearest. The confrontation with Beth’s trial, the trauma that had come with the attack, the atmosphere in the dressage team that had once been like a family to her… It had all weighed too much on her, a burden she was starting to understand she would not be able to carry it all by herself.
They called up their names from the entrance to the warm up arena, the six year old Selle Francais was fully aware of what was to come. Nora had inscribed them both into the show in hopes that she could focus again if she had an objective in sight, but even if Prince had been in his best behaviour up until this point, she feared she would fail him when it was going to be the moment of truth.
Nora took the stallion around the ring and behind the judges’ booths as per customary before starting the reprise, unable to hold back another sigh as she turned the stallion towards the centerline and made the first halt at ‘X’. High Phase softly bit on the double bridle as he waited for Nora to signal him to move forward again, his frame tense as he could feel the Canadian rider not fully focused on him.
If he had been a year younger Prince wouldn’t have doubted to buck and make Nora focus on him again, but the stallion now had learned to carry himself properly in the arena and make good use of his forward energy. With the clouds above them menacing of imminent rain any time the stallion was feeling fresh and jumpy, the first sequence of extended trot made him look like he was floating in the air, despite the visible tension in his body as Nora was not yet with him.
His energy though seemed to make the 24 year old rider realise where she was, shortening the contact with Prince just in time before the stallion could kick the withe fencing of the ring with his extended front hooves. Noticing the connection between him and the rider, Phase rose his step as he thought Nora was asking for more collection and upward movement, it was just a step before Nora could make him go forward again, but surely that half passage step didn’t pass unaverted to the judges.
That was the only mistake they would make in their test, High Phase flying and dancing across the arena now that Nora was with him. The Canadian kept her focus until the last beat, the stallion giving it his all throughout the test, stretching his neck to the fullest as Nora gave him a long rein to get out of the arena.
Has their performance been enough for today? Only when the last entrant finished their test they would know, but Nora couldn’t have asked for a better stallion to perform here in Fontainebleau, his big bay French stallion was maturing faster than she would have expected.

So, so hyped up for this show! First entry done! Two more to go!
This cheecky boy needed to start showing off in some show arenas and what a better place to do it that in his breed's home country!
I am not used to writing the stories before the events anymore, but hope it is readable enough >.<
