To add to the expression, try playing with the eyes as well (they're the same in every emotion in these drawing). Maybe try just drawing the emotions through ONLY the eyes? That would really help

yes, the character will be very visible from the eyes and eyebrows, this character has small pupil so he would appear more naughty+innocent+stupid, good looking but not so charming

thank you, i think the most stand out difference between manga art and comic art is that their expression of the character, american comic art are very realistic but mostly cannot express a very deep feeling or message from the character. So, facial expressions is very important to make story and character alive.
