Well, I colored it in Gimp using the paint tool with a really soft brush for the blending. The hair was especially difficult as it needed to blend properly with the black of the hair. So I would lay down ever darker tones of blue then I would blend in the black towards the middle.
That's how I did all of the shading and blending. Just a careful process of making sure the soft edges of the and ever gradienting tones blended my chosen colors together.
It took me quite a while as I am new to digital paint programs.

Yeah, I often like bright cheerful colors. But, I mostly follow what feels right. That's what I do when I choose colors.
