02/09/06 -->update to FF1.5.0.1
to answer for a few people before it gets asked again a few dozen times.... (special thanks to mat7h3w)
1. You must use Windowblinds and use Windowblinds 5 to get the transparency. It's the Vista skin with the glass shellstyle by Kol that gives that effect.
2. You can no longer download Kol's skin due to the request he recieved from Microsoft to remove it, so no site has it any longer. I believe version 3.1 was the last version of the skin before it was pulled. Unfortunately, the only way you can get this skin now is to either hope that Microsoft let's Kol re-release it, or find it in any of the few rare places it still exists online to download.
3. You must use the Compact Menu extension to get rid of the file, edit, view, etc menus.... Here's how you do it;
First, if you do not have it installed, go to "tools" then "extensions" to open the extensions window, and drag the compact menu extension included with this theme to it so that it installs. Then close all open Firefox windows and reopen one so it installs itself completely.
Second, right-click on the toolbar and choose "Customize", once the new box opens, you drag the Vista logo, which is the icon used by Compact Menu in this skin, to the toolbar. Then you drag each item you'd like to move up to the area where the , file, edit, view, go, etc menu is and customize it however you like.
Third, to make it look like the screenshot, you need to turn off any other toolbars, i.e. the Bookmarks toolbar, the navigation toolbar, and any other toolbars you might have installed like the Google toolbar.
Finally, If you wanna change the tab color with VistaFirefox1.5.2,you need to edit your userchrome.css file to include the following code and you must place it at the bottom of the file under all the other code.
(userChrome-example.css in X:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\XXXXX.default\chrome\)
.tab-text {
margin: 1px 2px 0px 0px !important;
color: #FFFFFF; !important;
}
*|tab[beforeselected="true"] .tab-text {
margin: 1px 2px 0px 0px !important;
}
*|tab[selected="true"] .tab-text {
margin: 3px 4px 0px 0px !important;
color: #000000; !important;
}
The easiest way to edit your userchrome.css file is to install the Chrome Edit extension from the main Firefox website listing of extensions and use it to "edit user files" under the "tools" menu entry after its installed.

Sorry to bitch, but 1.7mb for a firefox theme which is only a few buttons seems extreme, and with all the changes and extras you'd need to make it look like that you've shown, why bother? (I didn't)

Nice Theme!
How can I disable the bar at the Top?
I use VistaFirefox 1.5.2. and i read the introduction for this theme but at the top there is a empty bar.
Any idea to remove this?

unfortunately, firefox updates quite fast..
this skin is wonderful.. I have 1.5.0.2.. I knew this wouldn't work with 1.5.0.1. until the update..
Will this work with 1.5.0.2? or this requires another update?

And as a fix, this morning, I opened up the skin and did a resize (just a simple bicubic resample) of tabback.png to a width of 1600, it seems to work fine now.
Great skin, by the way, I'd been looking for a good Vista skin for a long time until google found me this

It looks like you didn't make the source graphic for the tab bar background wide enough for those of us who use higher resolutions (I use 1600x1200)
It is only wide enough for 1280-width resolution max
It makes the tab bar look like [link]

Tabs
Terrific skin by the way - the navigation buttons look great and I'm really impressed. However, is there a problem with opening new tabs using CTRL+T? When I open a new tab using CTRL+T I'm presented with a white screen and no tabs for browsing.
This is what my screen looks like with no tabs: [link]
This is what my screen looks like with supposedly two tabs (an old window and a new tab with CTRL+T): [link]
My About Window for troubleshooting: [link]
My extensions include:
DOM Inspector 1.8
Talkback 1.5
ChromEdit 0.1.1.1 (had to manually edit this to install correctly).
Thoughts?

Here's what I've done so far:
1) Downloaded a new copy of Firefox from [link] (After installation (step 5), the "About" window shows Firefox 1.5 "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5")
2) Uninstalled Firefox using "Add/Remove Programs" from the Control Panel
3) Deleted the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\*******\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox" (******** = my user name)
4) Deleted the directory "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox"
5) Reinstalled Firefox from the previously saved copy
6) Reinstalled VistaFireFox 1.5.2
Unfortunately, I am unable to see tabs properly. I can open new tabs using CTRL+T, but the tabs do not appear lined up side-by-side as they normally would. They still appear as [link]
Thoughts?

Awesome skin. However, even adding what you suggested to the bottom of userchrome, the font on the tabs doesn't look the same as in your screenshot... Is there a specific font in use that gives the text that bold black look on the tabs as in your screenshot for the bottom tab version?
and to answer for a few people before it gets asked again a few dozen times....
1. You must use Windowblinds and use Windowblinds 5 to get the transparency. It's the Vista skin with the glass shellstyle by Kol that gives that effect.

Finally, you need to edit your userchrome.css file to include the following code and you must place it at the bottom of the file under all the other code.
.tab-text {
margin: 1px 2px 0px 0px !important;
color: #FFFFFF; !important;
}
*|tab[beforeselected="true"] .tab-text {
margin: 1px 2px 0px 0px !important;
}
*|tab[selected="true"] .tab-text {
margin: 3px 4px 0px 0px !important;
color: #000000; !important;
}
The easiest way to edit your userchrome.css file is to install the Chrome Edit extension from the main Firefox website listing of extensions and use it to "edit user files" under the "tools" menu entry after its installed.

This looks really beautiful, but when I try to install I get an error relating to the install manifest, telling me something about a guid and that the manifest is invalid. I can't stand xml, if that's what it is, and I am using firefox 1.5, so I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions do they?
Great work though.
