Also reminds me of the Tremors film; they have some scenes where the graboids snack on unwary humans with much the same effect as quicksand.

Perhaps one of the best quicksand scenes I've seen of all time. The quicksand itself blends so well in the environment that I bet you wouldn't notice it until Dar plunged.

They did a good job disguising it. And it still blends in nicely even after he went in, which makes it look like the ground is simply sucking him down, quite a nice visual

I saw this movie when it came out-what, about 30 years ago now? ...Funny thing-The audience laughed when the ferrets stole Dar's belt; they laughed louder as he chased them, falling all over the place; they roared when he slipped and fell off the cliff...then he landed in the quicksand. It was like someone had slapped a child or something, the entire audience went from a laugh to a collective gasp, and the place was dead silent thru the whole scene...

Quicksand seems to be a primal fear for many, bet the atmosphere was charged and heavy in the theater.
Of course, one wonders how many boners were popped and lady parts were dampened by it
