Description
This is a cel painting i did off of the Hayao Miyazaki film "Howl's Moving Castle". This is from the scene where Howl takes Sophie for a flight. The hair on Howl was a bit difficult since the coloring was so light i had to paint over it quite a few times. It's also a bit more sentimental then most pieces i do, but i could not resist doing a Miyazaki rip-off. His films are always so beautiful.Related content

Yep! One of the cutest scenes in the movie in my opinion. My other favorite is when he stops the missile.

Thanks! It actually is a part of the movie; I made a cel painting out of it. You really should read the book. It's not the same as the movie, but I loved it! ^_^

I agree, that is the perfect movie to make cels for. The only other movie that can compare is Spirited Away.

Oh yes. We have to watch that too. *snorts* Maybe we'll actually watch the whole thing! Maybe this will be the movie that will destroy our Can't-Get-To-The-End-Of-Any-Movie-We-Watch Curse!!!! Yay!

If it was, then we would have to not stop watching movies for an entire day to actually finish one since we keep getting interrupted in watching movies! But yes we must break the curse.

I used acrylic paint for this cel painting. Have you ever done cel painting before? It's when you paint on the back of a transparency after drawing the image on the front with permanent marker. Its the same process they use for cartoons. Although, that would be like slave labour to try and make enough cels to do an entire movie! ^_^

And they are even better since you can paint different backgrounds to place them on if you get sick of one. Or, put two cells together. Just like the movies, without making between 25-32 cels per second. ! )

Nausica was great, although I've only read the manga. My favourite is Spirited Away becouse of the environment art, but Totoro is cool too since it was one of my favorite movies when I was little!
