Description
schools across America are cutting art and music from their curriculums. SAVE THE ART.for a school project-- I had to make a poster about an issue that concerns me.
Edit-- Thanks for DD and all your nice comments. This is so much more popular than I ever thought it would be :B

My school's marching band had to kick out around 40 members because the band couldn't afford to buy more uniforms and because the school couldn't afford to hire more band directors. music/art programs aren't funded by the county that I live in, so all the art/music programs in the schools around here have to be privately funded and the $150 (for the drumline and flagline it's $200) band fee, all the fundraisers we did, and the sponsors we had last year weren't enough. The only other art related programs my school offers are choir, theatre, and a basic art class. We don't have anything neat like an animation class or even a home economics class.
Kudos for this deviation and congrats on the DD.

Yay!
They just recently cut funding for the Culinary Arts in my school district. The Orchestra at my school had been planning to go to China to play in the '08 Olympics, but their budget couldn't take it. I'm in Drama, which isn't cheap either.
Now the Arts of all kinds sit and twiddle their thumbs, wondering just who will be next.
STOP THE FUND-CUTTING! ART! ART ART ART!

I agree, art and music education will help kids (unless they are like me, no math skills at all). I donate to the Hot Topic Foundation and VH1's Save The Music when I can.

That's awesome! I'd definitely see if you could submit this to VH1 as part of their "Save the Music" campaign.

We had a discussion about that in my music course in college...I had art in highschool, but no music classes, which really sucked.
I agree.

Awwww, super cute. D I love it!! Such a great cause! I agree, there needs to be more art and music in schools. I go to an arts-based highschool, so I don't have that issue, but that doesn't mean that it isn't important for others to get their share of artses too. T^T;

Oh wow-I feel exactly the same. It's so depressing that I had art and music in my school last year, but now it's already gone.

Thanks for creating a great poster that means something to a lot of us. Go get it out in our communities now!!!
I actually just mentioned in my blog how I've been volunteering to teach/introduce art and artists (they only let me once a month) since there are no art classes in our local elementary schools (and many of the schools for older students as well). Some of the schools concentrate so much on getting their kids to pass these national tests that they have cut art out completely, not even letting any of the volunteers in because ....I'm serious...in their own words "we don't have enough time for art, it's just not as important right now." I think many of our schools have forgotten how important the arts, in all its forms, are to the development of the human being.

I don't want my school to take away my art classes, they mean a lot to me. Especially art clubs mean a lot. Should we blame the government for taking away our art classes? I'm just curious. After all, I didn't know this was happening.

It's a wonderful, and very vibrant poster. I love the clean design and that it's eye catchy. I definetly want art to be saved! Even though I don't live in the US, I definetly wouldn't want it to be cut out of the curriculum (both subjects are very important especially in relation to all studies because of how you can apply imagination/creativity). It's good to keep awareness through the posters.

It's horrible that they would want to do this as art and music are such a vital part of a child's life and growth, and I can only hope that this effort will change something, somewhere. Great work on this piece--your imagination is great, and since you are 14, you are heading down the right road. Continue what you are doing! It's great.

The best way to promote imagination is to actually cut school from the curriculum. Read about unschooling.
