“Perhaps you'll do.” A voice from the very heavens encompassed all.
After, the entire planet seemed to cry out when Diane lowered from the atmosphere for that first step. The half dragon's sheer immensity was such that her foot had not even graced the earth when untold havoc surged below. Millions across the continent directly beneath her looked up in awe to suddenly see their entire sky replaced with the deep ridges and valleys of her nigh immeasurable sole. That thick tapestry of fleshy dunes seemed to go on forever, and in such clear detail despite soaring so high above the atmosphere that they were not prepared for what came next.
Countless people felt that sudden change then. Diane’s sole merely pushed down a tad closer and the earth trembled in the face of her presence alone. Pandemonium seized an entire continent then seeing the sky come down on top of them. That overwhelming presence had been enough to far surpass any calamity thought possible.
The very air itself yielded to her whims. Gale force winds stirred as a result, tearing across the land, ripping up trees and assailing countless thousands without the proper shelter to weather the torrent. Soon enough, even those who thought themselves safe were swept away as the winds grew ever more ravenous the closer her foot came.
By the time the gales became wholly unbearable a blanket of shadow draped across nearly a dozen cities beneath her. Still she had not graced them with her step, but that was about to change. It happened so quickly after.
Diane touched down in beyond cataclysmic fashion. From toe to heel, countless miles of the continent were smothered into oblivion with sickening ease. So many millions of lives were gone just then, compacted by her thick sole as it buried itself into the earth. Her step sank deep, breaking apart entire plates within the crust itself as it only bore deeper still. Those massive chunks of earth had no choice but to yield to her demands as everything else in natural creation did, merely breaking apart and rising with a groan around her foot. All the while the shockwave of that impact spread to yet untouched portions of the land, bowling through everything in its path, turning whole cities to rubble before they finally dissipated.
By the time that step was mercifully finished, Diane merely took another, resting her other foot down onto what was left of this meager meager continent and allowing millions more to experience the same ordeal she'd just put so many others through. People on the other side of the planet could feel the sudden shift of the entire world as her full weight was now placed upon it.
She was power incarnate standing there so far above it all. Her height alone was beyond comprehension even to those miles and miles away. The clouds themselves could only hope to reach half way up the mighty bulwark that were her toes. A slight flex of those very same toes had been enough to finish off thousands who'd somehow still clung to life around her. Even an action as simple as that carried grave consequences for the lesser beings beneath her tread. That was the measure of her power.
Now that she was fully grounded Diane surveyed the pathetic world laid out before her, or at least what was left of it from just two steps. Nearly half a continent lay in ruins at her feet. She swore everything broke far too easily, but thankfully there was still much land that had not been destroyed completely. In fact, between her and those untouched cities something got the draconic goddess' attention. That purple glow in her gaze lit up that much more at the sight.
“Oh, look at that…” Diane remarked, trying her best not to laugh, “Defenders… how quaint.”
There were dozens popping up across the continent before her, rapidly growing in order to meet this cosmic threat that had come to their world. She couldn't help the smug grin on her face seeing them all form up. To the people below these “giants” likely stood thousands of feet tall, perhaps nearly a mile themselves. Living weapons deployed in only the most dire of circumstances. To Diane, they'd hardly even measured a centimeter in height. Such puny things to be standing in her way. She almost felt bad for them… almost.
“Thanks for grouping up, bugs. It really makes things so much easier on me.” Diane teased before taking her next step.
Countless chunks of debris rained down from her sole as it tore itself from the earth only to swing forward straight towards the array of macro defenders. Only some stood their ground in the wake of her step. Most turned tail and ran, but even beings such as them could not hope to escape her. They caused untold damage in their attempt to escape but it all paled in comparison to what she would soon bring. More than a dozen found themselves directly beneath her then, throwing up their hands as if that might stay what was about to transpire. If only she saw them, she would have scoffed at the notion.
She stomped down with that much extra force this time, erasing an entire coastline and several cities inland along with her “macro” victims. She felt some struggling against her sole, clinging onto life still even broken as they were. She merely shook her head knowing they'd not last much longer. When she took another step the full weight of her body transferred and the survivors' struggles were snuffed away. Their end was punctuated by yet another impact of apocalyptic proportions further down, wiping away so many millions more.
Diane paid those mites beneath her no mind beyond that step, forgetting they even existed as soon as her foot peeled from the earth for the next one. Just a dozen more victims amidst the countless others, their broken forms littered her sole like so much other debris. The planet would go on to be coated in dozens of her footprints by the time she would leave them be.
In the end, Diane had decided this world was simply too small to be of much use to her beyond this idle diversion. And so, she left it, broken as it was, in search of others.
