Description "It's a good thing you designed a shielded backup power supply for the rebuilt Hypnos system," complimented Shibumi as he poured over energy readouts.

"I've no doubt the blackout is a result of the battle going on in the park. I just wish I knew what was happening. Whatever is causing this is ten times the power of anything we've seen before," replied Mitsuo.

"Renamon's still unchanged. Without the stasis field, she'd be gone. Whatever is disrupting her link to her tamer is winning. She's already depleted all the energy she has. If it wasn't for the energy we're pumping in to keep her molecular structure intact, she'd have dissolved by now," observed Rai.

"I feel so useless. We can work out what's happening, but can't do anything about it," lamented Shibumi.

"Welcome to my world," joked Mitsuo. "That's the way it's been for me over the last year. I've learnt to have faith in those children. They never stop amazing me."

Suddenly, buzzers sang from various consoles. The scientists ran to the computer terminals. "Massive energy spike. Ten thousand times stronger than anything we've seen before," yelled Shibumi.

"It's the same type of bio-electric energy we saw when Renamon woke up the last two times. But massively increased in magnitude!" added Mitsuo. "Curley, what's it doing?"

Rai jumped from one terminal to the next, as she tried to track the incoming radiation. "I don't know, it's overloading everything," she blurted, as the consoles exploded. All three scientists dived for cover as terminals up and down the laboratory burst into flames.

From the chamber where Renamon lay, a blue flickering glow appeared. As the equipment around her fried, the chamber ruptured and the yellow fox flew into the air. She glowed with internal power. Her eyes blazed with electric blue radiance. "Diamond Storm!" she yelled and around the fox, shards of diamond spikes materialised. They accelerated with blinding speed, smashing into the wall and shattering the concrete and masonry to fine dust. The fox flew through the resulting hole, the dust spiralling into vortexes as she disappeared into the sky.

Rai picked herself up and stared at the wrecked equipment and the hole in the wall. "I think she's feeling better."

Mitsuo slipped on his dark glasses and grunted with annoyance. "Is it so hard to use a door?"

~---~

Ruki threw herself on Takato. "No! You kill him, and you kill me! I won't let you!"

The owl returned to ranting. "Stand aside! The mighty chicken must vanquish these puny humans!"

Suddenly, a familiar voice washed over the defeated friends. "Pick on someone your own size! Power Paw!"

Renamon streaked in from the sky, her feet and paws ablaze with blue fire. She connected with Sinduramon dead centre of his body and the entire metal rooster toppled backwards, his lightning attack discharging upwards in the sky.

Eaglemon turned in amazement at the entrance of the yellow fox. Distracted by the new foe, he ignored Terriermon and bellowed, "This is impossible, you're dead!"

"You're not that lucky," Renamon hissed. "You've no idea how powerful my Tamer's link is! You've hurt my friends, and tried to kill my partner. Now you're going to pay!"

"I don't think so!" replied Eaglemon. "Kaiser Phoenix!" he screamed, as he leapt towards the yellow fox.

Renamon teleported, disappearing as the Eagle Digimon rammed thin air.

Appearing a dozen feet away, she laughed humourlessly, "Missed me!"

The chicken regained its footing and joined Eaglemon in the chase. Bolts of lightning flew from the metal monster, but Renamon ducked and weaved around the attack, her evasion as smooth as an aerial ballet.

Takado lifted himself up onto his knees. "We need our Digivices back. They've got to evolve."

Ruki screamed to her partner, "You've gotta get the chicken! Don't attack the blue sphere, it returns your own fire at ten times the power!"

"Gottit!" Renamon yelled back, as the tree she sat on burst into flames, thanks to a lightning strike from Sinduramon.

The game of 'catch me if you can' came to a stop as Renamon landed on the grass and stood her ground in front of the two adversaries. "This is your last chance. Leave for the digital world now, or I'll destroy you," she warned.

"Your powers are only matched by your arrogance," Eaglemon replied. "I'll enjoy absorbing your data! Mystic Break!"

Both foes fired at once. Eaglemon sent a searing white beam from his chest, and Sinduramon, a concentrated electric discharge. Renamon, with lightning speed and precision, leapt out of the line of fire at the very last moment. Behind her, the blue sphere hovered menacingly. With the fox gone, the attacks hit the sphere head on. The air electrified under the strength of the strike, and all three Tamers shielded their eyes from the explosion. For a moment, the sphere grew and shimmered, almost losing cohesion. With the crack of an exploding sun, the powerful attacks were returned, ten fold.

Eaglemon screamed as his real world flesh tore apart under the magnified force of his own weapon. The golden eagle vaporised into data. Sinduramon absorbed the mighty electric discharge from the sphere, his body bloating with the sudden overload of power. He exploded in an electrical storm, his data spewing outwards like a giant circular rainbow.

"She used the sphere to defeat them!" yelled Jen.

"Crafty like a fox," Ruki shouted.

Renamon hovered in mid air. "Do it!" she screamed to the tamers.

Ruki helped Takato to his feet. Jen wobbled on his knees, before the young girl pulled him upright. "We're going to win!" she cried.

All three tamers pulled out their Digivices, the gizmos now glowing brightly, back in working order. Together, the Tamers re-enacted a well-practiced ritual. With a yell of, "Card Slash!", the unmarked blue cards sparkled through their Digivices.

In unison, the three friends commanded, "Matrix Digievolution activate!"

The Digimon shimmered. An egg shaped matrix formed around each of the fighters, and like a cleansing scan, their bodies transformed to smooth untextured data. Their injuries disappeared and the data morphed and grew.

With blinding light, all three re-emerged in their new configurations.

"Terriermon Matrix-Digivolve to ... Rapidmon!"

"Guilmon Matrix-Digivolve to ... WarGrowlmon!"

"Renamon Matrix-Digivolve to ... Taomon!"

Taomon yelled to her comrades, "We do this together!"

All three flew sky high, and called in unison, "Trinity Burst!"

The three Digimon's form crystallised, morphing from flesh, to a diamond crystal form. Coming together, they shifted to brightly coloured beams of energy. The beams twisted and merged into a single arrow, with the head of a crane. The energy arrow ploughed into the sphere. The shock wave from the attack knocked the humans off their feet.

All three Digimon returned to their rookie form as they bounced off the blue sphere. Rolling away, all watched the sphere grow and crackle under the strain of the momentous attack. The seconds seemed like hours while the enemy teetered between reflecting the energy, or overloading. Finally, the sphere could stand no more, and cracks formed in the shell. Shafts of white light poured from the breaking encasement, and with a sonic boom, the entire sphere exploded outward.

With Terriermon on one side, Guilmon on the other, and Renamon out front, the Digimon at the centre of the now destroyed sphere had nowhere to run.

Ruki felt her mouth drop as their true opponent finally showed himself. "Kiwimon!"

"Wow, Renamon. Kiwimon kept you immobile for two days. That's gotta be embarrassing," observed Terriermon.

Kiwimon ran to the left, only to be blocked by Terriermon. He ran to the right, but Guilmon stepped into his escape path. With nowhere to run, the flightless bird quivered as Renamon walked up to the squawking beast.

Without a word, Renamon pinched the fingers of her paw and flicked Kiwimon on the beak. The bird fell backwards and dissolved into data. As the brightly coloured mist evaporated, so did the digital field around the battle. The owl hooted, and flew away.

Renamon turned and smiled at the stunned crowd of friends. "Well, did you miss me?"

The yellow fox quickly found herself surrounded, the centre of an enthusiastic group hug. Ruki cried with joy. "Yes. We did."

~---~

Rumiko laughed and sang along with her guests. Everyone was overjoyed, and the banquet was a huge success. Ruki's cheeks hurt, such was her smile. Takato held her hand under the table, and everything felt so right. Guilmon snarfed bread, and Terriermon's cheeks bulged with food as Jen mocked him for his greed. Even Renamon seemed to be enjoying herself, but the yellow fox held up a paw and quietened the room.

For Renamon to ask to speak was unusual, and the crowd of friends gave focused attention born of surprise. She cleared her throat and addressed the scientists from Hypnos. "I owe you a great debt of gratitude. Without your efforts, I could not have survived the virus attack," She clasped her paws together and bowed. "Thank you."

Mitsuo stood and bowed in return. "You and your Tamer, all of you, have taught us a great deal. To have been of assistance was a privilege. I know I speak for the entire wild bunch when I say; we owe you more than we could ever repay."

Renamon continued. "Everyone here acted with selflessness and concern for me. I am humbled... and grateful. I told Ruki, not so long ago, that I didn't understand human love. I think, now, I understand it well. It was love that freed me from the attack. It exists not just for humans, but for all of us. It is the force that binds us together. It changes with time, and ebbs and flows with the seasons. It's at its strongest when demonstrated, and empowers us. As long as we respect it, and treat it honestly, it will always give us the strength we need to see things through. I have come to believe in love. And I will always respect and treat honestly those whom I love. All of you."

The fox bowed to her audience and sat. Jen's father raised his glass and proposed a toast. "To love! May we always bask in its glory!"

Ruki raised her glass, and felt Takato squeeze her hand under the table. She turned and looked into his eyes. "To love. Wherever it may lead us," she whispered.

That's a great story.
I just read all the chapters and thought it was empowering and emotional.
Excellent work.
It was well bonded and showed great compassion and love between Ruki and Takato in there fight to save Renamon.
It was quite interesting as it was all revolved around the emotion of love. With Renamon understanding and effected by it and it's connection with Ruki and Takato.
I absolutely enjoyed reading it. Do you think you might do another story?

Thank you! I'm pleased you took the time to read through and comment on the entire story - your feedback and interest is very much appreciated.

Yes, the theme of love and Renamon coming to understand it was one too exciting to ignore - very inspirational. I must admit, I haven't been inspired by the Tamers universe, in a writing sense, since. However, maybe I'll sit down and re-watch the show again one day. Who knows.

Thank you for your time in reading, reviewing and your encouraging feedback. Excellent.

It was a pleasure to do so.

To me, the whole seasons of Digimon have lost my interest for some time now. I suppose from work and other stuff? But reading your story just made it sound a whole lot better. I suppose more deep and intimate like? I'd think they wouldn't put that kind of stuff in a kids anime movie.
Anyway I recently got interested in that new anime called Summer Wars, that was quite good, I enjoyed watching that one. You should see it?

Catch up with ya later, see ya!

i agree with that other guy. you have done an amazing job with this fanfic. at first. i thought it was just gonna be another stupid fanfic, poorly written by some fan. but you! i love the feelings, the emotions, the humor, the love that you put into this fic. it almost felt like that this was written by the original writers of the TV series. maybe even BETTER than that! for a long time. i thought that there would be no more good, original media or art in this world. but you have given me hope. and i thank you for that. i normally dont write long comments like this. but you did THAT good! xD keep up the good work!

Wow, what a motivational and humbling comment. I am glad you read through and appreciated 'First Kiss'. I loved the series, and the characters - I guess the inspiration I gleaned showed through.

Thank you again for reading, commenting and your very kind words.

You know your quite good at this, even though I haven't read all the chapters I found this chapter fairly interesting.
Well done on the story line with how it unfolds and how you describe the characters.
Marvelous work.
