they can be blended and shaded a little better.

This was done on xerox, I heard the makers look better on cardstock.

I have always been happier with alcohol markers on cardstock instead of printer or generic paper.
and especially if i will be doing any amount of layering at all, either shading or even multimedia stuff. the regular paper just dosen't seem to hold up to it.
I don't go crazy spending money on super expensive stuff... just go with the cardstock i can get at the local big-box Wallyverse-of-Corporate-Samtopia.
i think it is around $5 (for a ream with 150 Sheets) but may even be cheaper not sure what the last bit i bought was as i just throw it in the cart went i am buying the massive bags of coffee i use to keep my brain alive.
I would definitely recommend you grab some... your art is wonderful and i think you would enjoy the way the markers play on the cardstock better than regular old printer paper.
Then again Maybe it is just me.

Cool. It’s nice to know that this paper won’t be too expensive.
Another artist told me the same thing, the cardstock is better for layering.
