I'm a blood magic Templar too! I thought I was making an odd choice in having a hardcore 'holy' guy wielding the generally feared and grotesque art, but I'm shocked at how many other people did too.

you start off the game with a cutscene of your character using magic / having some sort of "power", then shortly someone from your faction will come talk to you. :0 after that you are in the actual game in the country depending on your faction (templar goes to london, illuminati goes to new york, and dragon goes to seoul) and you do a quest to discover the hub called agartha where you can go to many locations :3
i haven't paid much attention to the main story quest but all the little side quests are great!
