Description
About this arthropod:I think this is a Northern Paper Wasp (Polistes fuscatus), although I wouldn't wager a bet on it or anything. There was some seriously delicious smelling yellow flowers (perhaps Goldenrod?) that these wasps were all over.
About this shot:
One of the first macro shots that I was proud of was of a European Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula) in "Snack Time" (fav.me/da7qs7c ). It is interesting that I could have sworn the European Paper Wasp was pissed off at me, but these Northern Paper Wasps struck me as very docile.
I had a good time just sitting on the ground watching these wasps hoover up the pollen. For some reason, the Four-Toothed Mason Wasp (Monobia quadridens) that I encountered a little bit later (fav.me/dahkhde ) scared me to the core. I am trying to figure out what quality of wasps scares me so much... If I can figure out the source of my fear, perhaps I can aim to try and bring it forth in future pictures.
