Description
In 1999, Ubisoft released Rayman 2: The Great Escape, a sequel to the original 1995 game. And now since it is Rayman 2's 20th anniversary this year, I thought I would draw a tribute for it.ΒHere, I've drawn the "R2" version of the Limbless Wonder himself standing in front of a green vortex much like in one of the covers for Rayman 2, while holding a glowing yellow orb. I also included Rufus and Amberley, the two Noops from the 90's UK cartoon "The Dreamstone". Since they're present, I suppose this might also double as a tribute for the 29th anniversary of the Dreamstone's first season in 1990. Coincidentally, the Dreamstone and the Rayman franchise both take place in a sort of dream dimension: The Land of Dreams for the former, and the "Glade of Dreams" for the latter (though the first Rayman game instead takes place in a "Valley", which I believe is located within the Glade of Dreams as a headcanon, and may be where Rayman's species lives).
As a little "fourth-wall breaking" joke, I added the original 1995 Rayman peeking out from the bottom right corner, remarking that he is suprised that Rayman 2 outdid the original. I included that after I heard some Rayman fans say that they like the sequel better than the original, and I'm fine with that. I like both Rayman 1 and 2 equally, because they both have amazing graphics and lovely music.
I have a slightly unpopular opinion, however: I'm not a fan of Rayman's modern look since Hoodlum Havoc. I feel like I'm going to get called out for this, but let me explain: When I got into Rayman, I wasn't particularly fond of Rayman's modern design, even though the first Rayman game I ever played was "Raving Rabbids". I'm mainly bothered by the hoodie he wears. I mean, does he ever use that hood for anything? I kind of prefer his classic bandana/neckerchief, and I wish they would have kept that. I also don't like how he became self-absorbed in later games prior to Rayman Origins. Speaking of Origins, Ray's design for that and Legends just looks like the Hoodlum Havoc design with slight changes. And lastly, I personally feel like the modern version of Rayman is a bit overrated, which I why I prefer his classic, pre-Hoodlum Havoc appearances. There, I said it. You may disagree with me on this, and I'll respect the opinions of fans who do like Rayman's current design. I only wanted to explain why I don't like his modern look in a sort of mature, calm manner. I do recall playing a mobile port of Rayman 2 before I found out about the first game, but I never managed to finish it.
Now that I've got that taken care of, I have one last thing to say: Happy 20th Anniversary to Rayman 2, and also to the 29th anniversary of the Dreamstone!

I know another video game sequel that did loads better than the first game, Street Fighter 2. I can't think of many people who have played the original Street Fighter.

Yeah, because I usually draw him in his original 1995 style.
