Description The only pic that I still like from 1999...

Godzilla is by far my oldest obcession, shame I had never been that great at properly drawing him. I had a less of a difficult time drawing the newer version once the animated series was released, but I still was only able to pull of this single pose that I got from the trading cards that came from my Trendmasters series of toys.

I need to do some new stuff.....it's nagging at me more than ever lately

I don't see how being a rubber suit makes a difference.

If only Zilla was as strong as Godzilla, I'd agree.

Uh, not really...Especially if you're talking about the movie Zilla. Hell no. The cartoon version stands a better chance. Granted, I like both the Japanese and the Zilla cartoon version (hell I enjoyed the movie as a monster movie), but Zilla seems more vulnerable to weapons that don't even phase the Japanese Godzilla. (sorry to sound like a stupid "fanboy", but that's how they've been portrayed)

Well, I thought Godzilla '98 was strong enough, and when you put the American Godzilla and the Japanese Godzilla in a fight against each other, you don't necessarily have to base the American Godzilla in this fight on other creatures from the movie and TV-show, you can create a new creature that is even more powerful.

Not really feeling like arguing any of this right now...
The movie Zilla, while fast, felt too "flimsy" as a "Godzilla".Β  He got killed way too easily, it felt really off, even back when I 1st watched it as a child when it came out, which was before I even got into Godzilla oddly enough.Β  That left a strong taste in my mouth.
I'll just say the Animated Series Zilla was better IMO, he actually was portrayed fighting more.
And while one can make a "new Zilla" to base off of, most people use the movie as reference and yeah, he was fast but not durable.Β  That's what people usually go off of, otherwise it is just an avatar for an OC or really your just better off making an OC monster depending, I guess...IDK. Β  I think saying "you can create a new creature" isn't the best wording, it gives me that "OC" impression.Β  You basically mean take the monster and "buff its stats", so to speak, that makes sense.Β  Still, people base it more on the movie regardless, so whatever.Β  I'm rambling now.

Well, I'm a little tired, and confused. Anyway, I think Godzilla '98 was killed off in a great way (or sad), I just don't see how this film could have ended in a better way. G98 actually survived throughout the movie, and even if he could get hurt or damages he was pretty much invincible and always outsmarted the military, and really the only thing that caused his death was him being heartbroken after seeing all of his kids dead, he was now suddenly blind from the danger that man posed towards his species, and he was trapped on the Brooklyn Bridge. Honestly, I think he really could break loose from the cables of the bridge, the only thing that really stopped him was that he was heartbroken and his life had suddenly lost meaning. So Godzilla gave up, he had no purpose to live, and he was ready to meet his maker, so he just stood there and watched the Jets fire 12 powerful missiles against him (two of these missiles blew the Madison Square Garden into ruins earlier, which shows the power of the weapon), and then he looks into the eyes of his and his children's killer before his soul leaves his body. But then it turns out he only died to leave room for his only surviving son which would become the savior of mankind, whereas his father was more of a threat to mankind when alive. I just think this was a really great ending of this film, and it was a monster film, and usually those ends with the main monster being killed but still ensuring that the monster may return. I just think Godzilla '98 was a great and awesome monster that was given a proper and fitting end. When I was a kid, I was fascinated and stunned by the whole movie, every second of the film inspired my imagination and strengthened my love for Godzilla. It became my favourite Godzilla-film along with the 1954 original. I just don't think Godzilla '98 was killed off too easily or that he had a bad ending. Different from the Japanese traditional films perhaps, but not bad.

I'll just say that the 98 film's ending felt off and call it a day.
You are very inclined to feel the opposite.Β  I'm just gonna stop here and keep it short.

Yeah, but Zilla is soooo quick! We've seen him dodge missles! Think about how slow Godzilla is. Zilla may be knocked out with one hit, but can he GET hit?!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Speedynat3 In reply to SmashProX [2010-07-22 17:27:06 +0000 UTC]

Probably. But it really doesn't matter.
I will say this, Zilla is an interesting kaiju, but not a good "Godzilla". Final Wars was probably trying to show that there is a difference (while appealing to those who saw the GODZILLA film as a Godzilla flick and hated it for that).

SmashProX In reply to Speedynat3 [2010-07-22 17:29:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but Toho should put the REAL good Zilla, Zilla Jr. He might have lost, but he would've been strong enough to put up an entire movie long fight! Toho just saw GODZILLA 1998 and scratched off the cartoon! I'm still mad about that...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Speedynat3 In reply to SmashProX [2010-07-22 17:35:47 +0000 UTC]

The movie was packed was so many monsters, I don't think they would have time to make the fight longer. Plus, Zilla was kinda put in as a "side-monster" and also people were still pissed at Roland and Emmerich for what they did in the 1998 film (guess it was like "out of his 50 year history, this was a dud or something"). If they made that change, it could have lost whatever focus they were trying to have in the film.

I don't know, as much as I respect the cartoon and the monsters in it, I'm quite fine with what they did. I don't see any problem with that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SmashProX In reply to Speedynat3 [2010-07-22 17:39:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, they gotta do something about Zilla Jr.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Speedynat3 In reply to SmashProX [2010-07-22 17:49:55 +0000 UTC]

I don't think they will. Ehh. The cartoon series pretty much stands on its own kinda...my problem is that I hear they never finished it and ended on some kind of cliff hanger.
But looks like Godzilla might try to be in CGI (though that doesn't change that I enjoy the rubber suit...but hell, it is something to look forward to), I mean, he was in Always 2 (by Toho) as a small cameo/dream sequence. And Legendary Pictures seem to be working on a Godzilla film in 2012 (2012?! no wonder the world is gonna end! Godzilla kills everyone in a rampage after his new movie ), and I hear they are gonna try to make it like the Japanese monster (wonder if they can/will try to make it as dark as Gojira...).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SmashProX In reply to Speedynat3 [2010-07-22 17:54:25 +0000 UTC]

So, let's see, a CGI Gojira...Huh, sounds good to me, that means we can get better movement instead of a sloppy rubber suit! America did seem better with CGI then Japan did.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Speedynat3 In reply to SmashProX [2010-07-22 17:58:16 +0000 UTC]

Rubber suit is still a classic, plus it was revolutionary at the time. Yeah, it is old SFX but I really don't care...just want my dose of Kaiju mayhem!
Still, CGI Godzilla is something to look forward to, but unless they somehow make a Godzilla movie that is darker and more serious, my number one favorite Godzilla movie will still be Gojira! (King of the Monsters is pretty good, too, but the Japanese original was better)

SmashProX In reply to Speedynat3 [2010-07-22 18:01:02 +0000 UTC]

That's something I never got. Why was the original GOJIRA so good? Has anyone ever heard the critics of Godzilla's Return or GODZILLA 1998? "There was no rival for Godzilla.". HELLO! GOJIRA didn't have a rival either, unless Serizawa was a worthy foe with a one hit K.O.!

Godzilla movies are sometimes known for kaiju fights, cool but not always the case. As long as it is entertaining, I'm fine. I get what I came for.

Oh...I hope in the next Godzilla game, they make Dr. Serizawa as a special character like Godzilla Domination! That'd be something to see, Godzilla 1954 against Serizawa.

Very good! I have always liked Zilla's design, but it's a shame he had to star in such a horrible "movie." The animated series redeemed him, in my opinion; but I still laughed my ass off at the 30-second showdown in Godzilla: Final Wars.

The new Godzilla I like more, for he looks like an actual animal, which he is suppposed to be. The old 'Zilla... Not so much.

Now, that debate aside, this is an excellent concept done well. My only critique is that the rubber-suit Godzilla wasn't quite so light green... Or maybe that's just me. The only Godzilla I've ever seen was from his cartoon series...

Speedynat3 In reply to Project856 [2010-07-22 17:21:05 +0000 UTC]

Funny thing.
Japanese Godzilla is usually charcoal black, but in Godzilla 2000, he actually had a green tint to him, if you look carefully.
American Godzilla (really Zilla, just avoids confusion, plus Toho now has the rights to the monster design and labels it as "Zilla" or "Jira" in Japanese), yeah he was realistic but it never really hit the nail on the head...especially the original 1954 idea of Godzilla (representing the Atomic Bomb and whatnot, it was a pretty serious movie for its time).
