The water lapped against the shore as she approached the water, walking down the cut in the hilly, rocky beach. The sand was still warm from the bright sun during the day, or at least that's what Lyrica concluded. She was not unfamiliar to the sand, though the amount of water in front of her was certainly new. She was used to the grasslands she called home, with the red and beige sandy ground and tall brown and green grasses. With scraggly acacia trees and small watering holes shared by many. There was noticeably no drought here, though nothing lapped eagerly at the water. She felt unsure, but strangely calm. Whatever had drawn her to the shoreline had wanted her there, so she would in fact oblige. Without haste, she stopped a few paces away from the water, far enough where she could feel the wet sand, but the water didn't touch her small toes.
Bright colors from the sky drenched the world in pinks, blues, and purples. The sun was steadily setting, making its way below the horizon. Like her, it was in no rush to end its day. She was used to the howling of distant baboons, the roars of lions as they crossed the plains, birds singing as they flew overhead, but the beach was silent other than the occasional gull. Lyrica was alone, completely on her own on the beach, but she did not mind it. Though it just happened to be that way, she found peace in her solitude as she sat on the beach. The sand sank beneath her, but she stayed still, listening to the small waves as they crashed.
Eventually, as the sun set, Lyrica abandoned her spot in favor of a walk down the shoreline. Her feet splashed quietly into the water as she walked, the water hitting the fur of her underbelly. As she walked, she hoped that she wouldn't leave as suddenly as she had arrived, wanting more time to revel in the uniqueness of her experience. She had never seen anything like the beach before, but she knew better than to let the experience go unappreciated.
Suddenly, Lyrica leaped from the water, tumbling down into the sand as she felt something wrap around her lower leg. She shook her leg unhappily, only stopping once she was sure whatever had frightened her was off. She glanced down at the sand, where a small tangled mess of green... grass?... laid at her feet. She nudged it with her toe, avoiding using her snout in case it was alive, but as she moved it, it became clear it was simply a plant that had come from the water. Curiously, she decided to keep it and though the small item may have scared her, she couldn't help but be interested by it.
