The queen was patiently awaiting for her excuse. “ For the past 2 months, I’ve been training an apprentice of mine. A royal guard trainee basically,” Undyne explained, gesturing her palms outwards. Alphys’ eyes widened, her eyebrows arched.

“Really?” The queen answered in slight disbelief. It was an unexpected surprise for her. Ever since Asgore’s passing, every royal guard other than Undyne left the army. Monsters felt truly devastated by the loss and they lost their hope of ever leaving their dark world. The thought of becoming guard became fruitless though now, not to every monster.

“Yeah, this lively skeleton dude came by my house one morning and begged me to train him into a royal guard. I was blown away, I mean, finally! After months of waiting, someone finally wanted to enlist! He’s a great guy too. Enthusiastic, persistent and he’s pretty freakin’ tough too,” Undyne explained, she was smiling and quite expressive throughout her little story too. Alphys was actually glad she could see her old friend smiling and full of excitement again like she used too. Nowadays the guard would be seen as exhausted and sluggish, doing her job alone. "
