Description Deep Under the ground of Paris lies a gigantic labyrinth.
Long ago, when more and more buildings were made, the city had to put the content of all Paris graveyards, "unnecessary" and overflowing, somewhere.
So they used this place, these underground pits to deposit all skulls and bones here.

This is the kingdom of death, where walls are made of the dead...

But this place is much more ancient. It already existed when it was used as a storage and stone quarry...
There are a lot of entries and exits, usually people only know a few of them. No one can say he knows everything in there and there is no map nor indications anywhere.
This is not only an ossuary, there are a lot of corridors going in unknown places, it's a dark, huge maze full of secrets.
Even now, people often disappear under there. It is said that sometimes, rituals are held, as well as great illegal feasts, or some strange people meet there while inhuman things lurk in the darkness...

Of course, only legends.
But this is a place of shadows and legends...the catacombs.

Creepy and very cool catacombs. I can't even imagine seeing that in person, and I don't really want to......

Well....this is really interesting in fact. The public part is not so dark and safe, there are guards...
You have a signature about "skeleton", you'd like it

Be that as it may, I'm not so sure that I would go down into the catacombs. Props to you though, for being that brave.
when I saw that picture, the first thing I thought of was "The Cask of Amontillado". That probably helped to make it creepier.

I didn't get it quickly 'cause I know the french name of creations.
That's "La Barrique d'Amontillado", wich is exactly the same thing in fact XD
And, I am honored that my humble picture made you think about Poe's writings
But I'm not that brave..I think that if you were in front of the entrance to the catacombs
you would not resist to the call of the underworld (and now you can say you think about Lovecraft XD)

Ah. My French is, uh, honestly it sucks, even though my Grandpa speaks it fluently and was a translator on a French ship in the navy. You should see me when I read a book like The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I have a French- English dictionary next to me and I slowly sound out names like toddler just learning to read. It's pretty sad, pathetic, and hilarious.
lol
Well, the Cask of Amontillado mostly took place in the crypts beneath Montressor's house where the wine vaults where, where he lured unfortunate Fortunado, the drunken wine aficionado, with the lie that there is a cask of newly acquired wine that might be amontillado. Instead, deep in the dark underground tomb he is chained to a wall and then brick by brick walled in and left to die in the damp cold dark with out even knowing why.
Just thinking about it gives me the chills, but it's one of my favorite short stories of all time.
Maybe it is that catacombs make me think of that story, maybe it was the lighting, maybe it was the bones and the skulls looking out with their empty sockets. Edgar Allen Poe makes everything a little creepier, but your picture stands on it's own. It gives me an adrenaline rush imagining myself there, ( I have a wild imagination that I have very little control of ) and it's scary, and it's eerie, but it's also quite sad as well.
And you are right about one thing, I would most definitely go explore a place like that. In the moment I would get completely caught up in the excitement and the history and just everything, and I'd feel brave and that I could totally take of myself.
It's only when I have time to think about it when stuff like that seems like more a stupid or unsafe idea. hahaha

I'd love to see you speak French, haha...
And this is an interesting story, I saw it in the short stories book but didn't read it.
The wild imagination is a great thing! That's what makes good artists, writers, and all of this stuff. (That's really interesting too.) I have such imagination, but more domesticated. I can invent stuff at the speed of light, haha.
You like adrenalin? I have some others pics of this cold underworld I took while I was there, if you're interested I can show you that. Some bones are totally smiling
Is my English better than your French? 'Cause as you may have guessed it, I'm french...

I didn't guess that you were French so much as I saw it on your profile, but yes, your English is a billion times better than my French. I learned a little last year and I already forgot everything, but that's alright, because I only learned because my ex-boyfriend used to say I looked French.
I love my wild imagination, I can live there... My childhood was amazing because my best friend and I had these crazy imaginations. Oh my god, we were such wierd little kids... Ha ha ha ha
So you have an imagination too, and you can invent stuff at the speed of light... bet that came in handy when you com home at three in the morning. "No mom, I wasn't drinking. The weirdest thing happened........."
LOL
ooh more pictures of the underworld? Game on. The part of my mind that stores all the Greek and Roman mythology I've read over the years and keeps it warm and ready at all times is very much interested.

Ah, I see. And...you look french? How can you "look" french? XD That's really interesting.
Yeah, I guess your childhood were interesting, haha.
And I don't do stuff like coming at 3 in the morning, but that's the idea.
I also invent crazy epic stories for my friends like "The vegetables war" and stuff....XD
Yeah, I have the others pics I took when I was under there. They aren't as good as this one but interesting too^^
If you're interested, maybe you can send me your msn here or by a Note, and I'll send you that...you see, I can't upload every raw pic in my gallery^^

Yeah, well, that should have been my first clue that the guy was, um (be nice, try to be nice!) a little off...

But, yes, my childhood was interesting and never boring. My friend and I, our imaginations were so hyperactive that at the age eight, and younger, instead of playing with Barbie dolls (bleh) we were pretending that a portal to hell had opened up at school and kids eyes were turning red as it was taking them over and once convinced ourselves that the ducks at the pond were possessed by demons and we got pocket knives and spent ALL day sharpening sticks we found in her back yard to protect ourselves and that night slept with them by our bed, and the next day that epic evil that might take over the world was just something from yesterday and was replaced by something new.
HA HA HA
lol
I told you we were strange kids. That was the way we played. They were games, all kids play make believe games, ours were just really dramatic epic and sometimes dark and had very detailed plotlines. Thinking back though, they are absolutely hysterically funny.
But I can safely say that we never invented anything like "vegetable war".

I would like to see those other pics you took while you were there. As you might guess by now, I have somewhat of a morbid curiosity and I am curious about the underworld. It's fascinating and mysterious...
But I do not have an msn account, would you be able to send them by note?

Well. I can't do it right now, 'cause I'll leave soon to a place without any web access, and my external drive is already packed.
Please send me a note, so when I'll come back I'll remember you.
I'm going to Paris, maybe if I have the occasion to go once more in the catacombs, I'll surely bring my camera.
I'll maybe come back with new pics of this...then, we'll see. If not, I'll read your note, remember that I have to send you stuff, and send you stuff^^

I really wish I could have visited, but being in the United States makes it hard to get to France.
