Baby Midland Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta)Location: North America
Range: Southern Quebec and southern Ontario to Tennessee, northwest Georgia, and extreme northeastern Alabama
At this time it's shell was no bigger than 8.5cm lengthwise.

we do have them here in louisiana
tho it's rare to see them
usually only see their tiny cousins
(about 3-4" average max.)

I think in the south they have a stripe down their backs, and more yellow in between the lines on their shells. Very cool!

hmmm no stripe or extra yellow
at least not the subspecies of
that one
closest match would be the Mobilian
with the red splotch on the neck
but i can't remember the latin

look more like the box turtles
but as this IS louisiana, they're
probably inbr... i mean cross-bred
