This is a hat pattern that I've used before. It works well, but unfortunately, the measurements aren't exact. I lost my hat-Oh. Holy crap...
I just found my hat, which I've been looking for for a few months. (And what a convenient time!
)Ends up the measurements really ARE pretty exact...
Yes. So anyway, it works well, and looks good. If you want it to look even better, do an "invisible" hand hem (can't remember the exact term for this, if there is one...) around the bottom because it makes it look cleaner.

I started making a hat from another Tutorial and I've got as far as sewing up the hat and what not but now I'm having a little bit of a hard time with the hem...how do you make the hem? I've tried reading yours but I don't understand. Do I fold part of it under the hat and then the other part over the side? I'm really lost at what I need to do. It would help a lot if you could help me out.

Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you! I've been focusing on schoolwork
For most hats (any hat that is not reversible!), you can fold a small amount of the fabric inward (like 1/4 or 3/8 of an inch), then fold it up again as far as you need to for it to be the right length when you wear it. It's like a basic hem (where you fold the fabric over twice and stitch at the top of the fold) except the second fold uses more fabric than the first.

It's fine LOL... I didn't have time to go over the instructions and make them understandable. I'll try rewriting them here:
(First, it might help if you know this: When seen from the top, this hat's seams form an "X" on the top of the head)
1) See the orange A? There's a dotted line under it, and an orange line on top of the points on either side of it. Fold the points on either side of the A together(it's folding along that dotted line below the A- and make sure that the side of the fabric you want INSIDE the hat is what's showing on the OUTSIDE edge of the fold). Now sew from these "A" points down to the folded edge that had the dotted line on it.
2)See the pink B? There's a dotted line under it too, and two pink lines above the points on either side of it. (One of the points should already have a seam ending/beginning at it) Again, fold along this dotted line, matching the points on either side of the B. (The folding should be like a flat taco with the one edge always rolling in the same direction) Now sew from these "B" points down to the folded edge that was under the B.
3)See the green C? You can follow the instructions for 2 if you switch out "pink" for "green" and "B" for "C".
4) See how the two outer edges of the pattern are marked "Z"? Match them up, and sew from the tip of the point to that long bottom edge of the pattern. Now the hat's complete! Just turn it inside-out and hem the bottom edge and it's ready to go!

one mor question, is it best to doublee layer the hat?

What part of it don't you get? Are you having trouble making the pattern, or pinning it all together to sew? Or maybe it's something in the way I worded it?

It's very helpful but it could use a bit more detail, maybe a few more pictures showing what needs to be done. I'm having a bit of trouble figure which panel is which, it's just a bit awkwardly worded.
