Description
I am going to provide a disclaimer right now... I am not a republican or a democrat. I would like to think that I am able to see both sides (as best I can) from my economic, social and ethnic position such that I can not judge those from either side too harsly (everyone judges to some extent... dont leave me comments that say otherwise). I am for the most part split right up the middle. With that said, I think that the good American should follow two rules: Get drunk (the socially acceptable drug) and get out of the way (shut the fuck up and let us work). I think that both sides would agree that they dont have the voice they had 30 years ago (i know... assumption considering that I am only 26...)
I dont promote either side but I am seeing a very distinct pattern these days... They both want to push an agenda that we all dont completely support. We have to just find the party that "matches the best" to what we feel. Thats pretty damn lame with two choices!!!
I would love to hear your opinions (not attacks because I will hide those comments!) on how the middle majority should react (i.e. those who consider themselves moderates like me... those who still feel there should be a balance of power and consider opinions from all fronts...) I think this country belongs to us all... one side or the other and the middle ground amongst us all will point us in a direction we can be proud of.
Im not on a soap box at all. I want comments or opinions.
NO FIGHTS OR I WILL HIDE THOSE COMMENTS!!!

To me, being an American is THIS (your mileage may vary):
Come over, make a decent living, start a family, have a few burgers, do what you want (as long as it's legal), and stick your foot in the butts of those who tell you otherwise.

I think we should drop the parties because the only reason they're there anymore is for financial help. I vote for the candidate, not the party. I'm registered democrat but I don't believe everything the democrats put out there should be what's right, same as the republicans. It seems there are many that are like that also.
Great photograph and concept!

Thank you Its tough because so many people are in that position. Its hard to make that many compromises and still think youre getting what you want.

half full came to mind when i saw this, love it, as far as politics goes i think its always a game of who can lie the best at the time. the big man always shits on the little man, thats life. it will just keep getting worse, fact, but on the upside your a great photographer and by the sounds of it a bloody nice chap. be happy

Well, first off, love the pic. I stared at it for ages, trying to come up with some specific thing to say, but I can't choose. It's all around amazing, my favourite of yours so far, I think (which is saying a lot!).
I live in Canada so technically we have I think 5 main parties, but we also work out to only 2, because there's no chance of the other "main" parties winning (with the possible exception of NDP). I'm not really middle ground, but when I don't agree with either party's platform, it's very hard to vote! You can either choose the one that is most acceptable, vote for one of the other parties that won't win, or throw your vote away. Now, I want a voice, and a good one! So usually I would try to pick out of the two, even though it's a rough choice.
Middle ground is a tough place to be, haha!

I registered myself in the green party...not truly as a strong believer of that party, but because I wanted to get away from a two party system. I think now that this was an error as I am still supporting a party system. I plan to change to an independent for much the same reasons that you list above. It is frustrating that there feels to be no real way to have a voice in the massive system that is our (American) government. I feel this photo visually represents much of the frustration and helplessness I feel. Any photo that can evoke a strong emotion is one that I feel reaches a special caliber of artistic talent/statement.
In specifics of the photoβ¦I love the lighting. The shadows add a feeling of anonymity, as though this could represent anyone. The focus on the glass in the front, I think is also very telling of the American society. It may have been a nice touch to have a colored liquor, but that may have taken away from the clean black and white feel of the shot. The tape over the mouth is a great way to indicate the lack of a voice. Beautifully done is the way your eyes are hidden by the stylish brim of the house. To me it saysβ¦βMake money, buy nice clothes, and stay oblivious to what happens in the world around youβ. There is also a bit of a gritty feel to this shot, I donβt know what the technical or artistic terms is for this, but it really produces a raw emotive feel.
Truly stunning workβ¦I got a little carried away with my comment.

Ok, now i have to admit, that i didn`t even know, that you have something like that in the USA...
But you have them, so it`s not a two party system...

I was being sarcastic That was the point of a joke. There are only two parties and as such, parties on the outside have little chance at entering into the equasion

a.) love the hat.
b.) i think any REAL issue must transcend partisan thinking.
c.) doesn't this pic inspire you to do a whole 40's era shoot? i guess that's a hint on what i want to see as a viewer

jzcj5 In reply to laundryboy [2009-08-31 21:31:30 +0000 UTC]
a) thanks Its one of my favorites!
b) I agree... An issue should be seen from a neutral position and I think this country actually intended for that to happen but bi partisian arguments encouraged only two points of view (naturally)
c) I have a couple more shots from that shoot but I dont want to detract from this shot and question. I might post them eventually.
