Very detailed an inspiring tutorial, makes me want to return to painting myself. I dropped it after a short while of playing around with it because it was a whole different ball game from traditional drawings.

How often do you clean the brushes when painting? I think that's my issue. I try to keep them clean with every different colour I use but it makes my painting too primary in the end. Or maybe I start off too bright.

But here I see you mixed and blended the colours when working on the flowers? The red to pink I think is the most noticeable example I can think of.

Great tutorial, but in Phase 2 when you say use the cloth to add a layer of oil to help will overlaying, do you mean the oil you use to dilute the oil paints?

I have only recently began oil painting, this is an awesome tutorial, thank you so much it will be very helpful!

Yes, by that I meant the oil you use to dilute the oil paints.

I love this tutorial. I have learnt some new techinque here. your style is quite different from mine, I use colourpencils for sketching, and I always do objects before background. I admire you way of sketching it's so gross and still work! I think I'll try that sometime. The concept of two layer of painting is quite impressive because it enhances your painting and gives you time to think it over.

I like your words of "It doesn't really matter what type of oil colours of brushes you use....what matter is how much dedicatioin and effort you put in to the work" I think this is true, anyway I use the material that my teacher recommended : oil colours of Winsor & Newton and linsdeed oil.

I think the best advantage of oil painting is it dries slowly.

This is the first time I see your painting more thoroughly, thanks for sharing

Thank you!!

I want to start trying sketching with pencils like you do, I'm sure it is more accurate, I don't know if it will give me the same amount of freedom in movement though, will try it out anyway
Winsor & Newton and linsdeed oil.. I never heard of these, I will try to buy them if I have enough money

Yes I think this is a very big advantage, but I don't make use of it that much, I need more and more practice

My pleasure!!
I'm really happy that you found it helpful!! And I hope to see a tutorial made by you soon, so I can try out your style

Yes, it gives more accuracy and the freedom is preserved because when it comes to painting the sketch line is not matter much, the oil painting would completely cover it with a few stroke. Sketching on the canvas is just for guarantee the right proportion of the real painting. I always do a complete sketch of what I'm going to paint on paper and stick it beside the canvas, in that way I can get the overall idea of what I'm painting without caring too much on the sketch on the canvas. Anyway while I'm paining I always do not follow the sketch XD

You can use any brand of oil painting if you feel comfortable to afford it bacause the painting itself is priceless.

My tutorial? I though of making one I'll finish it as soon as I'm eager enough to do it, thanks

Kassab great tutorial.. but i'm wondering why do you apply a layer of oil using a cloth? is this to make the paint wet again and have the advantage to make changes?

K-A-S-S-A-B In reply to Miss-Unique30 [2012-02-14 17:39:23 +0000 UTC]

this awesome! I like very much. my art class had a big debate the other day about whether or not you should be painting the sides of a canvas or not. I think it is preference.
