Wouldn't that put her in a wheelchair, generally when your spine is non-functional walking and standing is... difficult.

Even so, standing up with a broken spinal cord is physically impossible. If it were cracked it would be fine, but severed would make her torso bend off at an odd angle, either forcing a hunched over appearance or permanent limbo.

See, my father broke his neck in a similar fashion so in theory I should know what it looks like more than most, but the lower position makes the angles quite difficult.

He didn't die, and can still move around quite well. It's just the stiffness that gets him down, and losing a few vertebrae made him shorter xD
Oddly enough it was the spot on the neck someone would normally be killed when broken, but not for him.
Mm, indeed. I think it's just due to the fact that it's super rare for someone to survive something like that, so people never see it to study it.
