Description This is a new painting I'm starting to work on... It's 30"x40" oil on canvas - of a little waterfall/rocks/plants scene that I took a picture of at the Japanese Gardens here in Portland.

This is the very first stage - and it doesn't look like much at all here... but I felt it would be good to include it, as it was a step. What I did here was use a light acrylic wash to do the linework - just blocking out the basic shapes of the rocks, the pond, the bushes, trees, etc... just a linework groundwork to build up from. I used acrylics because they would dry quickly and the subsequent oil layer would not disturb the lines.

It is interesting to see part of the process you put into a painting. I am surprised how clean and lovely your line work is for a basic outline.

It looks like a beautiful place. I look forward to seeing it painted.
