Description
A test piece for some new watercolour paper (Saunders Waterford HP) I wanted to try. I usually use Fabriano hot press, which is almost perfectly smooth, but the Saunders has a little texture still, without being overbearing... a texture which works well for creating the misty effect I wanted with my washes.I will never understand the appeal of cold press

Fantastic painting. I love Saunders and use both the HP and CP. Have you tried the Saunders High white? Its much brighter than the traditional white. Go to their facebook page for free samples. [link]

I haven't tried the high white yet, since I tend to prefer muted, off white shades of paper. But, I'm interested to see how it might work with ink paintings.

It's the texture of the paper mostly. I use the "back" of the paper instead of the side you're supposed to paint on, as it has better texture.

Oh this is absolutely beautiful! I adore every one of your pieces! I also love Saunders Waterford, I use the paper and I also use their watercolour board which is perfect for me, a dream. Must use it some more actually, I keep making the mistake of working on other paper and it just can't handle the way I work! I can't work with cold press either. Keep up the great work
