Gyozen’s Plan
A few days later, as far as Kaiser knew, he was awake in his base form, sore from his injuries. He was caught off-guard when a deep blue crystal was suddenly stabbed into his arm by none other than Krystalak. Kaiser cried out in pain, and readied a fist to strike the miserable trickster down. But those thoughts died when he saw the crystal, no bigger than a dagger to a kaiju, sink into his body without hurting him. After that, he could feel his injuries suddenly disappear as if they didn’t exist. He rose up from the ground and checked himself over to make sure this wasn’t a trick. “Remarkable, isn’t it?”
“How-?”
“The crystals hold many properties, my friend.” Kystalak explained. “One of them is the power to heal those afflicted with injury, and renew their strength. You should be thankful my master saw fit to share this gift with you despite your failure against Godzilla.”
At that moment, memories of his defeat flooded Kaiser’s mind. The anger swelling in him was enough to make the ground tremble. But then he asked, “Where am I…..and how did I get here?”
Krystalak fake gasped as he said, “You mean you don’t know? This is my master, Lord Astaroth’s, domain. The universe he conquered, and made his own, before making his play to return to his home dimension.” He waved a hand, and let Kaiser bear witness to the crystal landscape that looked more like a place of distorted reality. Masses of land filled with crystals hovered everywhere, and even caused some of the terrain to twist, and turn in circles. And what looked like stars were nothing more than crystals floating in the air. Kaiser then noticed his own field of gravity was weaker than on Earth. Either way, he was left in awe and wonder of this immense place. “What sort of realm is this?”
“A curious one.” Krystalak answered. “Thanks to his geokinesis, Lord Astaroth was able to ascertain that this reality is actually relative to your own. In fact, you could say, it is a world that met an alternate fate to its counterpart due to the rampant Quintessence tearing it apart from the inside out.”
Kaiser’s eyes widened. “You don’t mean….”
“I do: welcome to Earth. Or rather, as I said, an Earth torn apart by its own Quintessence, and transformed into this strange, but familiar world. Humanity, and monsters alike perished when this distortion of power began spreading to other worlds, adding to its own. It has only grown since Lord Astaroth merged with it, and added his own Quintessence to the equation. In fact, it’s Astaroth’s very essence merged into this world which has created the very object of Bagan’s mad ambition.”
Kaiser touched one of the dark, indigo crystals and felt the presence of power that was the bane of existence flowing through them. “Anti-life….it’s here?”
“In a pure, raw, uncontainable state.” Krystalak explained. “Lord Astaroth attempted to send a fraction of it to Earth, but…..it seems the planet’s Quintessence is far too stable to produce the Anti-Life. That is why the planet is now riddled with calamitous crystals.”
Kaiser nodded, “I understand. The earth senses contamination threatening its very heart, and is trying to reject the essence of Anti-Life.”
“Good guess, my friend. Yet it is all for naught, as the planet’s reaction to the crystals of this realm has allowed the Celestial Essence, which comprises the Anti-Life, to spring forth, and damage the planet’s surface. Only when all seven aspects are reunited after having absorbed the Quintessence can the Anti-Life be made whole. For our greater glory.”
Even with this explanation, something still bothered Kaiser. “Wait. From what it sounds, your master is helping my own. Why? He was cast aside for his failure to conquer the Earth all those years ago. So why does he aid Lord Bagan now?” This earned him a hard chuckle from Krystalak. “What hilarity! Did you honestly think that those two ever broke their alliance after Astaroth discovered this place? My master’s power now rivals yours, and he has his own agenda to play towards. However, due to his previous loyalties, he has seen fit to give his former master the secret to the Anti-Life. Especially since it will aid in his return to Earth. Bagan is a necessary component to return to Earth, as Astaroth is the key to ultimate power - the sole reason Astaroth exists, if you will. To each other, they are a means to an end with an understanding of their circumstances.”
“But-”
“No more questions, my friend. Now is the time for action. And you’re going to help me on this day.” Krystalak grinned to the uncertain kaiju.
“With what?”
“With something that will change the course of this war once, and for all.”
“Uh-oh.” Miku said in a worried tone. “I have numerous kaiju readings showing up in New York. Two of them read the same as the glowing monsters who’ve been appearing across the globe. And two more are signatures with power levels higher than all of them. What are we to do, Admiral?”
“I can’t send our GDF forces out there: they’ll be turned into scrapmetal.” Tanaki stated. “Has anyone been able to raise the Gotengo?”
After a few keystrokes, Miku said, “I’ve got a signal: patching it through.” On the monitor was the grizzled face of General Gyozen, who seemed less than pleased to be hailed at this time. “Yes, admiral, what is it?” he asked gruffly.
“General, why have you gone radio silent for so long?” Tanaki asked. “It’s chaos out there, and our forces are stretched too thin trying to deal with the aliens. We need Gotengo!”
“I am on a mission here, Admiral!” Gyozen exclaimed. “And you are jeopardizing my entire operation! You deal with our alien friends, and leave the big game to me. Gyozen out.” Following that, all communication with the Gotengo had been cut off, much to Tanaki’s frustration. “Gyozen!” he growled. “The general’s gone mad! The crystals must have corrupted his mind. He’s as much a threat to us, and himself as he is the kaiju. I’m putting out an alert to consider him hostile, even to all GDF forces.”
“What about New York, sir?” Miku asked.
Tanaki took a moment to think, then looked down on the comm link still attached to his coat. “I know it’s been a few days, but I think we need to make a call to Godzilla, and co. Hopefully, they can manage this ordeal.”
“Let’s just hope it’ll be enough.”
Godzilla arrived in New York a few hours later. He opted to go alone this time on account of his friends still being injured. Tristan argued about it, but Godzilla convinced him this was necessary. He was the least injured, or exhausted, so he was the best candidate for this mission. Once he arrived, he almost wished he DID bring the others along, given how many enemies he now faced. The city was overrun with Trilopods, and Cryog ships filled the air, firing down on the city below.
And amidst the chaos were the Antilocks attacking the city. There was a reptilian creature with 3 horns named Kaiceph, a komodo/crocodilian with wing membranes on its upper arm-legs called Scissure, a humanoid with a circular head dubbed Karloff, and a crab-like monster called Onibaba. They were in the process of tearing the city apart when they caught the scent of the intruder. Their roars alerted the trilopods to Godzilla’s presence, and they too prepared for attack. Any ordinary fighter would be intimidated by the numbers that were against them at this moment. But Godzilla was far from ordinary. And he would show it by exterminating these oversized vermin here, and now.
Kaiceph was the first to make a move as it charged Godzilla. However, it wasn’t fast enough to stab Godzilla on its horns, and was swiftly caught by the nasal horn. Godzilla’s back glowed with atomic energy, and in a single blast, Kaiceph was decapitated by his atomic ray.Karloff then tried to make a move by jumping at Godzilla, only to find itself impaled on Kaiceph’s head before his head was blown off. When Godzilla saw the Trilopods charging him, he hurled the Antilock corpse onto them, and knocked the group over into a heap. That didn’t stop others from trying to attack him. He struck several with his tail, and began clawing every Trilopod that got close. Some managed to get a few good hits in, but those cuts healed in no time. Remembering how convenient it was to wield a weapon, Godzilla tore off one of the Trilopod’s arms, and fashioned it into a blade - to the horror of the other Trilopods.
Then, suddenly, Godzilla felt something hit his head with enough force to stagger him. And that thing was Scissure taking to the air to attack. This gave the Trilopods a chance to swarm Godzilla, and cover him in a dogpile as they stabbed, and bit into him. But this only made him angry, and his dorsals were once more glowing to release nuclear energy. This time in the form of a nuclear pulse that knocked, and incinerated most of the arthropods. Again, he was struck by Scissure from the air. This was getting very annoying, and Godzilla needed to do something. So he reached out with his sixth sense to keep track of where the beast would come in while he hacked, and slashed more Trilopods. He could soon feel Scissure coming in at full speed from behind. The Antilock was certain it had Godzilla on the ropes, and charged at him without a second thought.
That proved to be a mistake when Godzilla ducked, and then thrust his make-shift blade up just as Scissure passed by.
With the bladed claw stuck in its chest, Scissure crashed into a nearby building. One that Godzilla blasted into oblivion along with the Antilock. This left Onibaba as the last Antilock to deal with. And since it was a giant crab, Godzilla knew how to handle this one. When it got close, he punched it in the face, and then blasted its arm as he grabbed hold of it. Once that was done, he pulled with all his strength, and yanked the crustacean’s arm clean out of its socket. Onibaba screeched in pain for the loss of its limb, but had no time to retaliate. Godzilla soon began beating the crab with its own limb while also overheating its body with his atomic ray, which he reduced to a flame. This yielded the desired result, and soon Onibaba was soft enough to smash apart into a messy pulp.
The rest of the Trilopods went down in the span of ten minutes.
With their ground forces decimated, the Cryog battleships began taking their shot at Godzilla. He began making short work of them with his atomic breath. After the sixth ship of the fleet was wiped out, the remaining ships retreated into space, leaving Godzilla alone. Watching them leave, Godzilla let out a roar of triumph over this arduous, yet simple battle. Needless to say, he was glad to see it was over. Or so he thought when he began hearing a nasty chuckle, and saw it coming from none other than Krystalak. And to his surprise, Kaiser was there, as well. “Stupendous work, Godzilla, well done! It seems your recent….awakening has made you stronger, even in this form. You may not have lasted against so many foes in the past until your fight with Kaiser. It seems you owe him quite alot.”
“I don’t owe him a damn thing.” Godzilla snarled. And who are you even supposed to be?”
“Ah, yes, how thoughtless of me: I am Krystalak. And Krystalak means…..me.”
“And I take it YOU’RE responsible for these crystals sprouting everywhere?”
“If only it were so.” Krystalak sighed. “But alas, that remains the master’s work. Not that i’m ashamed in any way: I simply wish I was indeed the cause of this chaos. Alas, I am merely a byproduct of this Incursion now tearing this world apart.”
“Then maybe you can tell me why Bagan is doing all of this?” Godzilla asked. “Why is he covering Earth in these crystals, and what is his endgame?”
Krystalak laughed as he said, “You still don’t know anything. I serve only one master, not Bagan. However, my master, and The Emperor are in collaboration to bring this universe to its knees. He simply needs the power these crystals were planted to produce for them. That one aspect that has eluded The Emperor for many millennia since he first discovered it on your world: The Antilife.”
Godzilla growled. “And what the hell IS Antilife?!”
“Something you will not live long enough to stop.” Kaiser said as he assumed a battle stance. “And this time, I will make sure to finish you quickly, and efficiently.”
“Not before I beat the information out of you.” Godzilla said as he assumed a fighting pose.
“You may find that difficult with two opponents to contend with, my friend.” Krystalak said, crawling around Godzilla like a jungle cat. “And I assure you, the Antilocks were only a prelude to what we are capable of.” Suddenly, Krystalak leapt at Godzilla with formidable speed, and slashed his leg. Kaiser capitalized on this with a twister punch that disoriented Godzilla before he was kneed in the stomach. As Godzilla held his abdomen in pain, Krystalak slashed him across the face, and then twice across the chest. “Together now, Kaiser!” Krystalak shouted, as the two powered up their long-ranged attacks. Kaiser struck with his gravity bolts while Krystalak struck with a stream of crystals. Both hit Godzilla in the chest, and caused him immense pain as he roared out.
But now, he was really angry.
His dorsal plates glowed as he fired his atomic ray, which both adversaries jumped to the side to avoid. They then charged him again, with Krystalak hopping from side to side before he slashed Godzilla across the neck, while began punching him repeatedly. Krystalak leaped over, and slashed Godzilla’s thigh, making him screech and fall to a knee. The crystal monster then slashed Godzilla across the chest once more. That was when Kaiser kicked him so hard he fell over. Again, they blasted Godzilla with a joint ranged attack. Again, Godzilla shrieked in pain from the attack. He was in serious trouble, he now realized. He knew Kaiser was strong even in his humanoid form, but Krystalak was far stronger than he imagined, with speed to compliment said strength.
At this rate, he was going to lose to this deadly alliance.
But he wouldn’t give up so easily. And with all his strength, he got back to his feet, and readied to fight again. A feat which impressed Krystalak, but irritated Kaiser. They were about to strike again when all of a sudden a barrage of missiles fell from the sky, harmlessly hitting the area around them. The Gotengo had arrived to enter the foray. And Gyozen was hellbent on killing Godzilla now. “I suppose I should thank those two for softening Godzilla up for me.” he said to himself. “But Godzilla is mine to kill! No others! All hands to battlestations! We are going to tear that lizard apart!”
Seeing this turn of events, Krystalak broke a nearby crystal, and said to Godzilla, “It appears you have your hands full with this issue, my friend. Kaiser and I will leave you to it….for now. But the next time, you will not be so fortunate.” He then clutched his power core, and the pair disappeared into a portal, leaving Godzilla to face Gyozen.
Another barrage of missiles fired at Godzilla. This time, he easily deflected them with his atomic breath. “Charge drill!” But he quickly saw that this was a diversion, and narrowly evaded the Gotengo as it charged at him. He retaliated by firing into it from behind, causing the whole ship to shake from the pressure. “Hold your ground, men! We will not let this monster best us again!” Gyozen shouted. “Charge up the crystal cannon!” Godzilla watched as the Gotengo circled back around, and readied to face him again. This time, he saw the drill charging with a green energy similar to the crystal’s power. And he was not happy to sense this energy at all. Building up all of his reserves, Godzilla charged up an Atomic Ray to meet the Crystal Cannon head on. Gyozen saw this, but didn’t care. He was sure Godzilla had been weakened enough that the beam would overwhelm him.
“Fire!”
The two beams fired, and met in a head-on collision that sent a shockwave across the city district. Both attacks were as strong, and powerful as one might imagine. But it seemed as though the crystal beam was stronger. Gyozen was growing ecstatic at the sight of Godzilla being pushed back by the attack. Victory was in his grasp at last. Or that’s what he thought, as something began to happen: Godzilla’s dorsals began to turn white, and a harsh glare was upon his face. Gyozen’s triumphant smile faded as he watched the crystal beam began to push back towards the Gotengo. He tried to divert all power to the beam, but it was pointless.
With a roar, Godzillas sent the beam back at the ship, and struck it with his own, sending it flying in circles before the humans regained control. Gyozen was angry, and his tone showed it as he listened to the damage reports. The crystal they had aboard their ship was still intact, but the primary weapon was deactivated. They were barely able to stay in the air as their thrusters had received heavy damage. The Gotengo was on its last leg, and would fall at this point. Gyozen couldn’t allow that to happen. “Full retreat! Take us back to base for repairs.” Of course, he meant the secondary base established with an unused EDF base. He knew that the EDF was considering him a rogue now, and was hellbent on his arrest. He would rather die than let that happen before he fulfilled his mission. He would retreat for now. But to Godzilla he swore, “I will have my revenge, monster! Just wait, and see!”
Godzilla neither heard, nor cared. He was just glad to see Gotengo leave, and that the city was once again secure. Now, the only thing left was to wipe out the remaining Cryog ships in the sky. Compared to what he just went through, this would be an easy task.
Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling things were only going to get worse because of Krystalak, and that something big was about to happen.
