Frozen Terror

The Crystal Incursion has become more prevalent; Sydney is beset by a subzero storm that has left it buried in ice and snow. Though powerless against the crystals, the military is braced for the appearance of any Kaiju that may be attracted by the crystal radiation. Suddenly, the frozen outback is under siege by three tall, hostile crystal towers that launch projectile attacks. They decimate the military, and leave nothing but wreckage in their wake.

It will take nothing short of a miracle to destroy the towers.

As Godzilla rested beside Angilas in the outskirts of LA, he began to sense a new crystal energy source had just emerged. He didn’t know how he could sense these crystals, but it was proving useful. The crystals had been eliminated here, finally, so there was nothing to worry about in Vegas. But now, he could sense a new danger arising in the western region. He had to get there as soon as possible. “Hey. Ang, wake up.” he nudged his friend, who stretched like a quadruped as he yawned. “What time is it?”

“Time to get moving, bud.” Godzilla said. “Some new crystals just emerged, and we gotta take care of them.”

“Well...we’ve been doing it for a while, so why stop now?” Angilas asked rhetorically.

Godzilla smirked, “Then it looks like we’re heading down under, ‘mate’.”

“Sir, an unidentified crystal type just emerged in Sydney, Australia. Military forces have tried to destroy them, but they had little success.” Miku said.

“Are they power surge crystals?” Tanaki asked.

“No, sir: it’s just three, and they’re a different type of crystal from what we’ve seen before. The military forces in Sydney reported that the crystals had taken the form of ‘towers’, and that they were firing projectiles at everything in sight. That’s when they went radio silent...possibly for obvious reasons.” She said grimmly. “But scans show that Godzilla, and Angilas are heading towards Sydney, now. I think they’re heading there to destroy the crystal towers.”

“Finally some good news.” Tanaki said. “But just in case they can’t handle it alone, I want Kiryu dispatched to help them out. One way, or another, those crystals must be destroyed.” He then sighed. “And it’s almost time to brief the council on what’s been going on.”

“Let’s hope they end up being reasonable - any wrong decisions may doom us all.

Both Godzilla, and Angilas smashed their way through the surface of the ice as they arrived in Sydney. It had taken them at least 3 hours to make it here. But when they did, they were shocked to see the harbor frozen solid, and non-stop snow was billowing over the city like a white blanket of death. Even the two kaiju had to admit to how freezing it was. “Did you ever feel anything this cold before?” Angilas asked.

“Well, no, not until now.” Godzilla admitted. “But we gotta weather through it, and destroy those crystals.”

“I agree, but...i don’t see any crystals like what you were talking about. Just the average crystals we’ve been demolishing. Not that that isn’t bad.”

“Just keep an eye out...I know they’re here.”

Then, almost as is on cue, that was when the crystals Godzilla had sensed emerged. Massive towers with red tips at the top that emitted a powerful energy. One rose out of the city, and the other two emerged from the bay. The duo got some distance from them so that they could think about what to do. Godzilla got an idea, and told Angilas to stay back. Eyeing the tower in the city, he charged up his atomic ray, and then fired on the tower. But the ray just washed over it harmlessly, and without a single mar. This frustrated Godzilla as he realized there was only one way to handle these crystal towers. “Looks like we’re gonna have to smash the crystals ourselves.”

“Why do I get the feeling it’s easier said than done?” Angilas asked.

“Precisely why I am here.” Kiryu said, as he landed beside Godzilla. “Tanaki believed you needed some help, so I was sent to assist you. I hope you’ll have me.” Godzilla smiled, and said, “Your assistance is always welcome, old friend.” He then dropped the smile, and glared at the crystals. “Now what say we make this a three way match. I’ll take out the one in the city. You two take down the others.”

“Got it.” Angilas said.

“Affirmative.” Kiryu responded.

With that, the trio took on the triage of Crystal Towers plaguing the city. To each’s surprise, these crystals were far more durable than any ordinary crystal. Thus, it would take some time to shatter them. But thankfully, their inanimate state made it easy. It was their other abilities that made it hard. Energy shockwaves erupted from the crystals systematically to knock back their attackers before any more damage could be inflicted. They also were able to shoot smaller crystals from their bodies like missiles. And most devastating was a beam of red energy that struck with immense force. As a last line of defense, the towers could erect crystal walls that acted as defensive barriers against attacks.

All in all, it was a worthy challenge for our heroes.

Godzilla got the easiest of the towers as it seemed limited to the beam, projectiles, and shockwaves. He weaved around the beam, and blocked the projectiles with his arms. The shockwaves he also blocked, even if they still hurt a little. This still wouldn’t stop him from destroying the tower. And after a full minute of careful maneuverability, he finally shattered the first tower. He then rushed over to Kiryu, who was having more than he could handle as the tower kept springing walls as thick as rock to reflect him. He thought he would be stuck evading the towers' attacks, and tearing through the crystal walls forever had Godzilla not arrived. Together, they tore through the towers defenses, blocked its attacks, and shattered the tower in half the time Godzilla did. “Thanks for the assist, my friend.” Kiryu said. “This tower was giving me all that I could stand.”

“You still did good, Kiryu.” Godzilla complimented. “And now the cities safe again...for now.”

“But wait, shouldn’t we help-” Kiryu stopped when he witnessed Angilas shattering the last tower, then roaring in victory. “Nevermind.” He said with a shrug, before turning to Godzilla. “So now what will you do now?”

“Regroup with the others.” Godzilla said. “Since the city isn’t in immediate danger, we can wipe out the crystals once the whole crew’s back together.”

“I understand. In that case, I recommend going to London,” Kiryu pointed north. “It’s apparently where Baragon, and Tristan were heading while this incursion was going on.” He then activated his rockets, and said, “I have to return to base, for now, and send my reports to the captain. They’ll want all the details. Take care, my friends!” He then flies off back to GDF HQ, leaving the two kaiju to ponder their next move.

“So I take it we’re going to this “london” city, then?” Angilas asked, though he knew the answer.

“Yep.” Godzilla simply said. “There’s nothing for it.”

“No kidding. I hope Baragon and Tristan are alright.

“Me too, Ang. Things are getting serious.”

Aboard the Vortaak warship, Lord Bagan observed the two kaiju as they began to move out. “Far more serious than you would know, gojiran. More than you know.” He then set up a projection of Tristan, and Baragon, which showed they would make it to the city, first. This was when Karkaro appeared upon a hover platform beside the Emperor, and proclaimed, “The deserter will finally be destroyed, my lord. And the kaiju as well.”

“Yes….but not TOO quickly, for I have other plans in store. Prepare a group of Trilopods to ambush the two approaching London. Megalon! To your mission.”

“With pleasure, my emperor. A chance for some payback on that stupid dinosaur through some amusing rough housing on his precious mate.” His drills revved. “And a few companions to amuse you further.” Bagan said as a group Trilopods stepped out through some doors. All of them itching for a fight.

“Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war!”
