Evil Intentions
The Earth Defenders watched in horror as a bright, rainbow light exploded from the Island they called home. They feared that this was the end of their friend, and that he had given their life so that they could escape. None of them could speak as they watched the light grow smaller, and dimmer as they soared through the air. All they could do was pray that Mothra Leo escaped as their travels continued. It was half an hour later when they landed on a deserted Island off the coast of Japan. The forcefield finally opened, and let the kaiju loose.
“Is everyone okay?” Godzilla asked, to which everyone replied ‘yes’ in their own way. “Good. Now we just figure out what to do next.”
“What do you mean ‘do next’?” Rodan questioned. “Did you forget the part where we all got curbstomped by a small group of aliens before we even had a chance to fight back? The aliens are through messing around.”
“Has one single defeat made you a coward?” Battra asked.
“Hey!” exclaimed Rodan. “I ain’t no quitter: i’m just stating our odds here! And none of them are looking good for any of us! But you’d like that, wouldn’t you? You WERE on their side, after all.” This earned Rodan a growl from Battra, who eyes were glowing with purple energy as he prepared a Prism Beam. It was only thanks to King Caesar that a full fight didn’t escalate. “That’s enough! There is no cause for us to turn on one another. Not now. Godzilla is correct in our need to plan our next move.”
“And then what?” Baragon asked. “Rodan had a point before: Bagan sent his big guns after us, and then wiped the floor with us. And who knows if Mothra’s even alive at this point. Let’s face it: we were just the resistance all this time, and we just didn’t know it. What good even are we now? Nine kaiju against an army of aliens and monsters who could beat us any time they want. What’s the point of even fighting anymore when we don’t even have the numbers to beat them? We’re outnumbered, and outmatched. Let’s face it: we’re doomed.”
Atreus then thought of something. “Or perhaps not.”
The group turned to him, and Godzilla asked, “What do you mean?”
“We are not as outnumbered as we might think. There are still other titans resting within the Earth. All of whom are awaiting the call of the Alpha to awaken, and summon them. With their aid, we can finally overwhelm the alien forces, and protect the world from their threat.”
“But how would we summon them all?” Gamera questioned.
“Leave that to me.” Atreus said. His expression then turned grim. “But it means we must remain hidden for the time being. I will travel alone to gather the Titans. As the last of the Alpha species, I can call forth the Titans, and urge them to fight for us.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, after what just happened on Monster Island, Atreus?” Angilas asked.
“It is the best chance we have of preventing Bagan from finding us all together. And our only hope of raising an army to oppose him” Atreus said. Though he was a little reluctant, Godzilla gave his father’s words some thought, and said, “He’s right. Besides, we’ve been fighting in separate groups so far. This time will be no different. Except this time we have a clear goal in mind that’s sure to guarantee success.”
“What is it you suggest, then, Godzilla?” King Caesar asked.
“The Tenebris Regime wanted to divide us, right? Let’s give them what they want. King Caesar, you go with Baragon, Angilas with Rodan, and Gamera with my father.” Atreus gave him a cross expression. “I told you that I would-”
“Now is not the time to argue, dad.” Godzilla said in a commanding tone that surprised Atreus. “Besides, you might stand a better chance with another Titan by your side if you’re going to convince them to help us. I know it’s not what you would choose, but please. There’s too much at stake here to leave things to chance.”
After a moment of silence, Atreus smiled and placed a hand on his son’s shoulder. “You have the wisdom of the ages in your heart. Very well, then.”
“Thank you, father.” Godzilla said. “And while they’re gathering the titans, the rest of us continue what we’ve been doing and destroy the alien forces, and every crystal we come across. Tristan, you come with me.” Tristan then gave an apologetic look to his mate, and said, “Sorry, but……I think i’m gonna be on my own for a while.”
“Wh-what?! Why?!” Godzilla exclaimed.
“What happened on Monster island just showed I have to get stronger than I already am. I can’t do that by relying solely on others. It’s nothing personal….but it needs to be done.”
“But-”
“Don’t worry about me, Seiki.” Tristan said in a comforting tone. “I promise i’ll be alright. I’m a big tough guy who can handle himself, remember?” This made Godzilla chuckle a little, but he still had a sad expression. “There’s nothing I can do to change your mind, is there?”
“It’s you they’re after, Seiki. I don’t know why, but you stand a better chance alone for now than in a big crowd.” He then nuzzled Godzilla and said, “We’ll meet up again soon. You’ll see, love.” Godzilla returned the nuzzle, and said, “Just come back to me in one piece, okay?”
“Same goes for you.”
“As touching as this moment is, shouldn’t we be on our way?” Battra inquired. “I still need to find Mothra Leo, and ensure he’s alive.”
“Understood.” Godzilla then turned to his team, and said, “We all know the plan, so let’s roll out!”
Little did they suspect the lone Gyaos spying on them just as the group split apart.
In the hall of Lord Bagan’s temple, Astaroth stood before the Dark Master before taking a knee to the fallen titan. “My master: Monster Island is no more, as you wished.” Bagan chuckled as he said, “You have done well, my apprentice. You, and the others. Now with their Island destroyed, the Gojiran and his allies will be made desperate to thwart us. They have scattered to the winds, even now, leaving themselves vulnerable.”
“What is your will, my master?”
“The one called Godzilla is alone.” Bagan said, projecting Godzilla swimming through the waters towards a tropical island. “You will send your fastest and strongest warriors to hunt him down.”
“As you wish.” Astaroth said, bowing his head in respect, before standing, and leaving in a portal. Once back in his crystal dimension, which he could now access at will, he looked down to his hand to see the Quintessence of Monster Island surging through his body. No doubt the emperor sought to destroy this powerful source of Quintessence so that Godzilla couldn’t use it. But now, it was in Astaroth’s hands, which made him stronger than ever before: even stronger than his Armored form. A thought to ponder at a later date. For now, there was work to be done. With a thought, he summoned Krystalak to his realm, who bowed before him. “You summoned me, my lord?”
“Indeed. I have a task for you, and Thanatos.”
Ghost Godzilla, and Thanatos punched each other clear across the face. They then punched their guys, and uppercut their faces. With a roar, Thanatos fired on Ghost Godzilla, who blocked as best as he could, before firing into Thanatos’ chest. The beam sent him sliding back, and gave Ghost some room to breathe. But the winged demon only laughed in amusement. “When will you tire of this game? Again, and again you challenge me to combat. And again you fail to kill me in your quest for vengeance. When will you simply surrender this fool’s errand?”
“When you lie in ashes at my feet, demon!” Ghost roared, as he charged up another atomic ray. But then his throat was slashed by something that was very quick. It then slashed his chest, and then his thigh, forcing him to cut off his atomic breath as he screeched in pain. While he was kneeling, he noticed a purple ball rolling towards him, and failed to stop it before it was too late, and it crashed into him. The ball uncurled to reveal Krystalak, who Thanatos was less than pleased to see. “Why do you interfere, Krystalak? This one is mine.”
“Your grudge match can wait, Thanatos.” Krystalak said. “Lord Astaroth has need for both of us to seek out, and capture Godzilla.” he then smirked. “Fortunately, I already know where he is going.”
Thanatos sighed reluctantly. “Then is the master wishes it, it shall be so.”
“Good. Now please carry me through the air. I can guide us through to where he will be.”
Thanatos grunted. “So be it.” And with his smaller arms, Thanatos picked up Krystalak, and the two took off towards the sky. Ghost Godzilla, however, was not quite finished yet. He’d waited too long to have his revenge, and he wasn’t about to let it go to waste now. Rising quickly to his feet, Ghost dove into the water after Thanatos, and began his chase for the Huntsman of Astaroth.
Little did he know that this hunt may be his last.
Godzilla arrived on the island, expecting the worst. Instead, all he found were warm, sandy beaches, and crystals hanging around. He wasted no time in destroying the crystals, and making sure no humans were harmed while he worked on eradicating the crystals infesting the Island. To be honest, he was surprised that he faced no resistance this time from The Tenebris Regime. This made him feel somewhat weary as he wondered if he should be concerned by the lack of enemies.
Yet before the last few crystals could be shattered, he would soon come to realize this was all a trap.
Something massive sailed behind him, and smashed him in the back of the head. He then felt something clamp around his throat. This was when he finally saw Thanatos holding him by the neck with his tail. “Time to resume our hunt, young one.” He then hurled Godzilla into the air, blasting him with a Death Ray as he did so. Godzilla winced from the pain of the attack, but managed to get back up all the same. That is, until something slashed him across the thigh, made him screech in pain, and take a knee. He couldn’t see who it was until krystalak pounced onto Godzilla, and bit into his neck. The two struggled for a few moments before Godzilla threw the reptilian space monster off of him. But not without receiving some scratches to the neck. He then growled, “So you’re here, too, are you?”
“To finish the job on Monster Island with a dear friend.” Krystalak cackled, before trying and failing to slash at Godzilla’s chest. Godzilla retaliated with a tail swipe that knocked over Krystalak, before he started slamming his tail on the kaiju’s head. Thanatos blasted him again to garner his attention. In return, Godzilla shot him directly in the chest. But the demon shrugged it off, charged Godzilla, and hoisted him into the air with one arm. He then slammed him into the ground, and stomped on him. This was when he kicked him into a nearby rock formation, and just as Krystalak got back on his feet. Noticing the weakened foundations, Krystalak shouted, “Let’s rock his world, Thanatos!”
The duo then fired upon the mountainside, and buried Godzilla alive. Thus he remained until a full minute passed. Once it did, Godzilla exploded out of the pile, and glared at the two kaiju. But he wasn’t quick enough to evade Thanatos, who flew foot first into him, driving his spines into the rocks. He then began pummeling him with his upper arms, and scratched him twice. He then grabbed him in both arms, and hurled him towards the beach. Krystalak laughed at the sight of Godzilla being thrown around like a ragdoll, and said, “What a joy! To think it would be this easy to beat the great Godzilla like a mound of dirt! Hahaha!”
“Hmph. You find amusement where I find disappointment.” Thanatos said. “I cannot see why the master wishes this one alive. It would be of greater ease to simply kill him, and be done with it.”
“Perhaps I can oblige with that.”Came the voice of Kaiser, who landed inbetween the two mutants by surprise. “The Emperor has new orders: he wishes us to kill the gojiran here, and now.”
“But Lord Astaroth said he was to be taken alive.” Krystalak said.
“This order comes from the Emperor, himself……unless you rather I tell him of your insubordination?”
“Enough.” Thanatos said in a threatening tone. “He belongs to the Dark Master. He may be the one to slay him.” He smirked. “Unless you prefer to take it up with me? I’d be more than willing to negotiate this turn of events.”
Before Kaiser could argue, the sound of water rushing reached everyone’s ears. Even Godzilla, who was struggling to get back up. In an explosive burst, Ghost Godzilla emerged out of the water, roaring to the heavens for all to hear. He then cast his milky white gaze upon the three kaiju, and his brother who lay at their feet. He growled in anger, and said, “None of you will be touching my brother as long as I stand!”
Thanatos sneered, and then grabbed Godzilla by the back of his neck. “You want this wretch, you obsessive fool? Then come, and get him!” He then hurled him into the last cluster of crystals, and let him drop to the ground, barely conscious. Ghost roared in challenge to the three kaiju, and they roared in turn. Thanatos charged the undead kaiju, and locked claws with the titan in a brutal reverse tug of war. When he noticed Krystalak on the side, he hurled Thanatos towards him, and let his body crush the crystal terror. He then met face to face with Kaiser. The latter led with a right hook, only for Ghost to dodge it. Kaiser then swung his right, only to get the same result. In his growing frustration, Kaiser tried to once more punch the undead saurian only to have his arm bitten into by the gojiran’s massive teeth. He then began shaking the skeletal warrior like he was a bulldog on a chewtoy. No matter how hard Kaiser punched him, he just wouldn’t let go. At this rate, the sheer jaw strength of Ghost would break his arm. But Ghost had other ideas, and kicked Kaiser in the torso as he released him.
That was when Thanatos struck, ramming into Ghost like a rhino. He then began pummeling Ghost in his critical mass form. A form Ghost was no match for, as he began to feel the effects of Thanatos’ blows. Thanatos knee’d Ghost in the stomach, and then swung both fists together in a right-hammer swing, which knocked Ghost on his back. He then fired his Death Ray onto Ghost while he lay there. He then began stomping on Ghost with terrible force as he began breaking his ribs one after the other. After a while, he simply began pressing his foot into Ghost’s chest to crush the life out of him. “Now, I will prove all of the doubters wrong in that you CAN die twice.” Kaiser, and Krystalak had recovered by now, and were now watching as Thanatos kills this interloper.
Little did anyone realize that a mistake had been made. When Thanatos threw Godzilla into the crystal cluster, he had completely forgotten what would happen as a result. Godzilla had absorbed the critical mass energy in the crystals, and was now feeling his own power multiplying ten fold. Power that was almost impossible for him to control. In fact, something within him interacted with the crystals, and enhanced his rage to new heights, the likes of which he’d never felt before. A roar of pure rage escaped his maw, and drew the attention of the three generals, who were shocked to see Godzilla completely engulfed in orange light. He then formed a ruthless scowl aimed at the three when he saw them on top of his brother. They had crossed a line, and now were going to pay. His spines glowed brightly, and he aimed an enhanced crimson ray at Krystalak. The blast didn’t kill him, but it sent him flying out to sea, where he would cause no more trouble.
Kaiser was the next to try, and take down Godzilla by using his Critical Mass. But to his surprise, when he went to throw a punch, Godzilla caught it. He then threw a thunderous punch into Kaiser’s gut, and sent him flying out to sea, leaving only Thanatos. The demon roared in challenge to the gojiran, who noticed where he dropped Kong’s ax and picked it up, ready for combat. He threw a punch, only for Godzilla to dodge, and slash that arm with his ax. He then channeled some of his power into the ax to make it more lethal a weapon. Thanatos tried to grab the ax with his tail, but Godzilla dodged to the side, and chopped off the tail. He then stomped on it, and watched it burn to ash from his enhanced body heat. He even noticed how Thanatos seemed to be keeping his distance from him, and got an idea. Charging up his body, he fired a hyper nuclear pulse that pushed into Thanatos, and burned his wings to cinders. He then began bombarding the demon with Hyper Crimson Rays which Thanatos had no defense against.
With no other choice, Thanatos charged in, and tried to choke the life out of the burning kaiju. It was at this point Ghost had completely healed, and witnessed the awe-inspiring fight occurring before him. However, he saw his brother was in trouble, and his instincts to protect him kicked in once again. He saw Godzilla had dropped the ax again, and got an idea. As Godzilla struggled with Thanatos, the latter made the mistake of getting too close to his face as he prepared to fire a point blank death ray.
That was the moment Ghost swung Godzilla’s ax downwards, and cleaved Thanatos’ horn in half.
Thanatos screeched in pain as he felt his horn shatter. And what’s more is the pain of his power diminishing as he was reduced to a weaker state of power. Godzilla was surprised by this development, and looked to see Ghost as the culprit responsible for this. “The horn was the source of his power.” Ghost explained. “Without it, he can finally be killed: pour all of your power into a single attack, and end this.” He then handed Godzilla his ax. “The hunt must end now.” Godzilla nodded in response, and began to do as requested. Pouring every ounce of this newfound energy into a single attack. For the first time in his life, Thanatos was horrified by what he knew was about to happen. Has death come for him at last? It seemed to be so as Godzilla finally unleashed his Hyper Crimson ray upon Thanatos. A massive light engulfed Thanatos as an explosion erupted from the blow. Godzilla fired for a whole minute before he finally expended his strength, and the beam died down. Ghost held up Godzilla as the two watched the smoke clear away. To their horror, however, Thanatos was still standing. But upon closer inspection, they saw his entire body was burned to the worst degree. He then fell to both knees with no strength left in his body.
“You killed me.” He said weakly. “What irony that the brothers I wronged, both alive and dead, would be the ones to end the hunt. Still, there are worse ways to die than by your hands.” His body then began to crumble into ash. “Not that it matters, either way. The end is coming and this world will soon be but a memory. Prepare yourselves, for….it’s coming……it’s coming…..” and with that, his entire body turned to ash, and his life ebbed away.
Thus perished Thanatos.
“We did it.” Godzilla weakly said. “We finally did it,” he smirked, “and we did it together.”
Ghost was quiet for a moment until he said, “Granted, I still wished for revenge…….but i’d rather my brother live when I failed to do so. Now we are both avenged,” he looked to his glowing hand, “and now my time upon this plain is over.”
This made Godzilla feel horrified. “What?”
“With Thanatos dead, my soul’s finally free.” His eyes then began to turn into the orange, and red of the Godzilla species. “Now I can join our family in the other world. Something I have longed for since I was cursed into this existence. Let this be considered a dream come true.”
“But….brother…..”
Ghost Godzilla gave a patient sigh as he said, “Don’t mourn for me, brother. This was inevitable. My time ended long ago - but yours is not here, yet. You still have others who depend on you. So go forth, and lead them. End this war, and save this world we both called home.”
Godzilla gave his brother a sad smile as he shook his arm. “See you on the other side…..Fiercin.”
Fiercin smirked as he said, “I’ll be waiting for you….Seiki.”
The Ghost Godzilla then faded out of existence as if he never existed. Godzilla was sad to see him go, knowing he was his lost brother. But he was also relieved to see he was free of his curse of undeath as a revenant. He only hoped he would find peace in the next life. Then the pain struck him as he felt his body ache from the expended power he used. Though he hated to admit it, he needed to hibernate for a few days, if not weeks until his body could fully recover. So with that, he dove into the deepest depths of the sea where he could siphon off the planet’s Quintessence, and speed up his recovery.
He only hoped his friends would be alright without him for a while.
