In the Godzilla/Voltron LD crossover, during the events of The Last Great Titan War, Godzilla and Gamera became war partners, and then later on, best friends. One day, while Godzilla had been doing battle with the Ghidorans forces, he was suddenly besieged by a swarm of Gyaos who had been grown to full size, and were seeking to make Godzilla their next meal. And while the Gyaos's claws, and teeth could do little to penetrate his hide, their sonic scalpels were proving quite the nuisance. Added to the Gravity Beams of the Ghidorans, it might be possible Godzilla would haven been overwhelmed by such an assault. But that moment never came as an ear-splitting cry called out in challenge before a plasma ball vaporized one of the Gyaos. Then more balls came, and struck the Ghidorans, burning through their flesh due to the infused Quintessence plasma being thrown at them. That was the moment Godzilla met Gamera: The Last Hope. Together, in a creative yet brutal display of strength and power, the duo wiped out the Ghidoran platoon and their Gyaos swarm before taking a moment to rest. Turns out they had quite a bit in common with each other, as both sought to end the Titan War by any means necessary, though not at the cost of humanity or any of the innocent races that were dragged into this war. And despite his brutality, Gamera could sense Godzilla had a pure heart with good intentions. So he offered that they join forces, and work together to end the war once, and for all. Godzilla agreed, grateful to have such a strong ally on his side.

Now he wouldn't need to fight alone anymore.

The years went on, and the duo became inseparable. Together, through grueling hard work and determination, they sealed away the Five Fallen Guardians of Atlantis, and drove The Shadow of Evil (a name for the Gyaos given to them by the Divine Moths) to near extinction. All the while, they grew closer, and closer to one another. They became more than partners: they had become brothers. And they vowed to always look out for one another, even after the war ended. But things took a dark turn when Kaiser Ghidorah seized control of the Dark Prism. With it, he transformed himself into a being of pure energy, and sought to drain the life out of Earth, and all who lived there. Godzilla and Gamera united several Titans to oppose him, but his power was too great. He defeated these "Earth Defenders" with such ease, it was almost impossible. In the end, Gamera stood over a beaten and broken Godzilla with one thing in mind: keeping his promise to keep his brother safe, no matter the cost. Despite Godzilla's weak protests, Gamera poured every last ounce of life he had into a single attack, after making Godzilla promise to protect all life in his stead. Once Godzilla stated that he would try, he watched as Gamera made the ultimate sacrifice, and fired his Orylium Beam straight into the heart of Kaiser Ghidorah: Shattering the Dark Prism, and reverting him to his Monster X form. Thus achieving a great victory for the forces of Earth that day.

But all Godzilla could see was that he had lost his brother to those 3 headed monsters. As Gamera's body turned to dust, Godzilla let out a mournful keen that could be heard for miles. It didn't matter that this victory would drive Monster X from Earth in a bid to keep himself alive. Godzilla had lost the only other family he ever had, and it broke his heart trying to endure it. But endure it, he knew he must do. He made a promise to Gamera, and he was intent on keeping it. So for the next centuries that followed, Godzilla worked to protect as much life as he could from the wrath of the Ghidorans, and all the other horrors born of the War. He would not fail his brother, no matter the cost. Sadly, in the last year of the Titan War, he would end up failing as he burned the world, and practically every, living thing on it. He ended the war, but only at the gravest of costs. And the guilt he felt was immeasurable for any being but him to bear. However, he would find some peace when Gamera's spirit appeared before him alongside Mosura, and told him that not all life had been expunged from the planet. The Earth would recover, and life would be born anew thanks to Godzilla. But the Monster King did not believe he did a good thing. His fury brought about this destruction, and cost the lives of so many while making him the last of his kind. Gamera tried assuring him that it wasn't his fault, but Godzilla would hear none of it. He would never forgive himself for breaking his promise, and for causing such destruction. But Gamera wasn't ashamed of him, and neither was Mosura. Godzilla did what he had to to save the universe, and despite the darkness, there would be a new light to take its place. He also assured him that they would meet again one day, in a new life for the ancient turtle. Same as Mosura.

Godzilla could at least take peace in knowing his brother would one day be reborn.
