Description
Some personal history of me: my first kaiju movie was King Kong 2005 followed by Godzilla 1998. Since then, I been hooked by the kaiju genre. My first Japanese Godzilla movie, if you don't count the 1998 movie, was Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla 2002. When I was a kid, my dad got me the DVD followed by Godzilla Tokyo SOS when I saw Cinemassacre's Godzillathon and knew the order of the movies. I then spent the rest of my years finding all the Godzilla movies on DVD. I was able to get all the movies, all in store, except four: 1964 Mothra VS Godzilla, 1967 Son of Godzilla, 1974 Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla, and 1975 Terror of Mechagodzilla. I couldn't find those 4 at a good price online until the Criterion Collection in 2020.
Basically, the Kiryu Saga has a special place for me since it was my 1st Godzilla movies excluding the 1998 movie. The KiryuGoji/SOSGoji is my favorite incarnation of the character. The thing I love about it the most is how expressive it is, you can tell what's going on in his head nonverbally. The scar on his chest makes him look more badass.
Fun fact, I was born the same year the movie was released, making it more special to me.
