Rena Sayama is the daughter of a police detective and is Japan’s most popular idol and is the primary love interest to Shinjiro/Ultraman.

Back when Rena was small girl her father would tell her stories about how the original Ultraman defeat every villain and monster that appeared and saved dozens of lives in the process, these stories and the heroics of the new Ultraman would start Rena to developing a crush on the hero and got her interested in the true identity of the masked hero.

She would find out that Shinjiro was Ultraman and began a long distance friendship with him when she when overseas that would eventually lead into a romantic feelings between the two of them.

It would later be revealed that Rena was actually adopted and that she may not actually be an ordinary human with the power to create barriers, this would lead Bemular, (who seems to know how Rena really is) to give her a Ultra suit and she would take on the name Marie and help the Shinjiro and the other Ultra brothers in their missions to protect earth and to get even more closer to each other.
